October 15, 20196 yr Great! So it sounds like real-world AI aircraft and ships will be in the sim. This will really help the world feel alive! It's "cool" to look out the cockpit window in cruise and see shipping far below and aircraft doing their thing. Nice also if we could tune the comms radio (or have it autotune) and pick-up all the chatter of the real-world AI aircraft we are seeing in sim. It would be great if they could add trains also! How amazing to being flying YSSY to say WSSS and see the Ghan far below en route from Adelaide to Darwin! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ghan Edited October 15, 20196 yr by MatthewS Matthew S
October 15, 20196 yr Recap on new things i heard: AI and ATC:The first part we already knew from the Avsim interview. They tested importing live traffic (with its limitations), they are still working on the offline traffic. How detailed this offline traffic will be will depend on their priorities and community feedback too, this is the answer also on SID/STARS for AI planes AI Ships Like above, they expect to have live ship traffic and different kind of ships but again they don't know yet when it will be coming and with what level of detail Improvements to ATC (using SID/STARS): they are working on it but no details Moving trees depending on the wind: they are working on tree shaders and also water shaders, but no details at this point Persistent Aircrafts and their state: It's in the roadmap but no details at this point Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."
October 16, 20196 yr We have world-wide AI shipping now, thanks to Henrik Nielsen. It's fabulous. Also if you are using an AI traffic addon or your own compiled stuff, you are seeing "live" traffic, since they are using real-world flightplans. But if MS is including this massive amount of work with the sim, more power to them. But I hope it's not going to be priced sky high ('scuse the pun). October 16, 20196 yr Would be nice to have a sim not needing any addons out of the box, except for the aircraft you'd like.

Does this AI Shipping work now in P3Dv4 or just FSX? It don't say anything about P3Dv4 is why I ask. Bob Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)
October 16, 20196 yr Yes, Bob, I have the AI shipping working in P3Dv4.4 Well worth adding it to your sim. May all your landings be safe ones! Hugh Costello - NZWN

It's just that nutty 5% of die hard simmers that cry out for all kinds of nutty extra's... 😎 The only thing is that the 5% are the core market, the repeated buyers (no, I don't have statistics just a hunch) . And if MS knows, as we say in French for the proverbial "tartine", which side their bread is buttered (hint : they do), I am pretty sure that the new sim will be designed to call for addons or DLC whatever you call them. That would only work in certain parts of the world. In the UK, for example, under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006, it's officially illegal to listen in to live air traffic radio transmissions. i7-14700k | Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F Gaming WIFI | 32GB DDR5 RAM | MSI RTX 4080 Super | WD Black SN850X 1TB & 2TB | Corsair HX1000i ATX3.0 | MSI MAG401QR 40" monitor | Win 11 Pro 64-bit | Meta Quest 3

October 16, 20196 yr Thing is, an offline version and an online version of both AI traffic handling and ATC needs building to meet the needs of two types of simmer. For me, there's nothing more satisfying than listening in to real world ATC and seeing the equivalent AI traffic respond to their instruction. However, that's not possible around various parts of the world, so there needs to be an offline alternative to fallback to in case of no coverage or no connectivity. The ideal scenario is a hybrid system that, for instance, can present live AI at LHR with 'default' ATC, flip to live ATC when in Shannon FIR over Ireland, remain with live ATC in Shanwick and Gander Oceanic but display 'canned' AI over the Atlantic, and reverts to fully live ATC and AI when in the Gander domestic FIR / Moncton FIR. That's the direction where I want to see ATC and AI go eventually. There are numerous other scenarios where you could potentially be sharing the same bit of airspace with "real" aircraft. i7-14700k | Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F Gaming WIFI | 32GB DDR5 RAM | MSI RTX 4080 Super | WD Black SN850X 1TB & 2TB | Corsair HX1000i ATX3.0 | MSI MAG401QR 40" monitor | Win 11 Pro 64-bit | Meta Quest 3
