Maybe you want to compare how Bombardier did the Turboprop (Dash-8) and the Jet (CRJ)? Both are similar in that they do not have Autothrust, which means extra workload and attention to airspeed. Both have similar, but not identical autoflight panels. Both have their quirks: I like to fly both. Wait until Aerosoft´s Professional CRJ series comprising 700, 900 and 1000 is out. They are in beta-test at present.

Before sending big money consider where flight simulator will be 6-12 months....FS2020!

I know I'm not spending until confirmation/compatibility with the new MS Flight Simulator.

In 6-12 months we're likely going to have FS2020...stock...with probably an additional year or more after that before good hi-fidelity add-ons begin to appear...and that *IF* it's everything it's hyped-up to be (and we all hope it is).

So is our money wasted on a high-quality add-on that we can fly now and throughout the next 2+ years until FS2020 is really (or not really) an option?  I think not.  Heck, a decent afternoon of golfing costs as much as a high-end aircraft add-on.

Back to topic, there are a fairly limited number of choices in the hi-fidelity (aka "study-level") space.  For hi-fidelity jets in P3Dv4, the PMDG and iFly Boeings, the Leonardo MD-88, and the FSL Scarebus are on the top tier, IMHO.  The iFly Boeings (737NG/747-400) and the Maddog X are both more modestly priced for add-ons in that group.  In the next tier down I'd put the Qualitywings 787, Coolsky DC-9, and CaptainSim 757.  The TFDI 717 would be in that second group if it weren't an unstable CTD monster for so many people.

Absolutely could not agree more Bob.  Spot on.  I'm going to enjoy the hobby while I wait not only for the sim to be released, but I won't use it much until there are third party airliner addons and who knows what is.

Yeah, but come on - even at its new, slightly higher price, the Leonardo Maddog is 36 percent less expensive than the FSL A320. Put another way, you can buy the Maddog for 64 cents on the FSL dollar. That’s not a small difference. And the Maddog isn’t exactly beer quality, either. The OP didn’t say that he didn’t want to spend for quality, only that he found the FSL too much for his particular budget - which one could, it’s one of the most expensive add-ons out there. No doubt it’s a fantastic product, but you can spend less and come away with something in the same league, and not Virtualcol at all (as another poster suggested). There’s value-priced champagne to be had, is all I’m saying.

Maddog is among the best...the Majestic Q is the best imho, especially when I consider efficiently it runs on my system. The Maddog seems to be pretty much as efficient, and top notch for systems and immersion, with superb flight dynamics, like the Q.

I just did a -93 and a -26 landing with the Q400. The HUGS helps  out a lot with landing it smoothly.

Any Airbus in any sim is as boring and sterile to fly as the real one. If you are interested in hand flying your aircraft, at least partially, I'd also highly recommend the MD80.

Much more character, personality and of course much more elegant as well.

Boring, sterile in what sense ? 

I am a GA/WB simmer but I am toying with the idea to go to an airliner. I am watching the 320 YT of a pilot (Blackbox711) and I find it interesting to fly. But I don’t honestly know much about flying  liners. How is the NG737 less boring, less sterile for instance ? What is character/personality of such aircraft ?
