November 3, 20196 yr When one finds "Bird's Eye View" in Bing Maps, is this then sufficient to have buildings like in these 400 cities that have data for photogrammetry? I am asking since there are smaller towns that have Bird's Eye View in Bing Maps but are not listed in the 'Maps' app in Windows 10 as a '3D City'. Siggy Schwarz

I am asking since there are smaller towns that have Bird's Eye View in Bing Maps but are not listed in the 'Maps' app in Windows 10 as a '3D City'. They do need at least all 4 directions to be able to create 3d models out of it, do these places have all 4 view directions (north, south, east, west)? Maybe there are other minimal requirements for a computer to create photogrammetry out of photos, I have insufficient knowledge about the subject to comment on this. The team did say they have over a 1000 photogrammetry locations of which 400 cities, so they have more than what you can view in Windows maps. The pyramids from the initial trailer might be such a location, it is clearly photogrammetry but it won't show up in 3D in Windows maps (and there is no birds eye view available in Bing for that location). Did you check whether the smaller towns show up in 3D in Windows maps even though they do not appear in the 3D city list?
November 3, 20196 yr hello i would say its not enough for such a detail, i do photogrammetry and for one house scan in very good detail i would say minimum would be 50-100 photos, for more detail (Ultra) i shoot up to 2000 photos Whats more interesting is the resolution, in FS2020 (3 centimeters per pixel against 1 meter per pixel in the previous versions) now thats something i cant wait to experience in FS2020.
November 3, 20196 yr I would love to see dev blog on the AI training and photogrammetry and how it is applied specifically to MFS2020. Hope it happens at some stage.
November 4, 20196 yr I've noticed that the Bird's Eye View feature is very hit or miss. I live in Huntington, West Virginia, which does NOT currently have the Bird's Eye View in Bing Maps. 45 miles away, however, in Charleston, West Virginia, there is a beautifully resolute Bird's Eye View. November 4, 20196 yr Nice article that briefly describes how aerial photos for photogrammetry are captured and how a model is created from them: https://theconstructor.org/surveying/photogrammetry-aerial-photography-procedure-surveying/20357/

I was about to write a long post explaining the confusion I see almost daily about photogrammetry on these forums and then I saw your post which was much more eliquant and PC 😁 Bing isometric "birds eye view" cities will just be represented aerial imagery + autogen + custom buildings like Paris and London. Same as Giza in Egypt but that doesn't have a "birds eye view" in Bing and is certainly not photogrammetry.
February 5, 20206 yr I snapped this picture of the Hurricane Mesa the other day while walking the dog.. I wonder if we will see a day when cliffs will be modeled in 3D, so we wont have just mounds anymore? Although alot of that can be attributed to the detail of terrain mesh in past flight sims. Can it be down the same way as buildings will be done in FS2020? Here is a little info about the test track atop the mesa if anyone is interested.. http://wchsutah.org/businesses/hurricane-mesa-test-facility.php ASUS Prime Z490-A / i7-10700K / RTX 4080 / G.SKILL Ripjaws 32GB / Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic case

February 5, 20206 yr This is the only real downside I see about MSFS for now. If they had Googles' data, it would be so much more accurate. I live near a town with a population of 100 000 in Europe and it's available in 3D on Google. In Bing on the other hand cities like Vienna or Cologne are missing. That's a bit sad. Hope they will improve this soon. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved

I hope this is the wake up call that MS needs to make it clear that pretty much anyone who has used both Bing (geez I still hate that name but I can't say exactly why) and Google see that Google are MILES ahead in quality... Plus the data is available to all, at a price... so dust off the wallet and buy better data )
February 5, 20206 yr The funny thing is, Bing has 3d data of Detroit, but stops 1 1/2 miles south of my house. Lol , oh well.
February 6, 20206 yr MS has more data in his possession that is available for us mere mortals on Bing maps, so don't despair ...
February 6, 20206 yr Yes the photogrammetry data in Google Earth covers more and wider areas than Bing. My home city in Bing is represented with photogrammetry only in the downtown area and it's close surroundings, whereas in GE, the photogrammetry goes way beyond that to even cover a nearby city as well... But who knows, maybe MS has more data that was not processed for Bing for xy reasons. Yet I still think that even without Photogrammetry, the procedural world of MSFS can offer so much immersion by itself... ________________________________LEBOR SIMULATIONSScenery for Flight Simulators since 1998
February 6, 20206 yr I'm not worried, and far from desperation. I think I have more important things to worry about. Lol
