Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and clima crisis

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Until now, I thought that virtual flying was more likely to protect the climate than real flying with CO2 emissions.
But since the new simulator gets its data from the Internet every time a flight takes place, huge data is transmitted every time.

For this reason, there have to be huge halls with servers, hard disks and network facilities on the Microsoft side, if millions of people play the game at the same time, with a huge electricity and Co2 consumption.

Maybe a virtual flight will produce just as much CO2 as a real flight?

Example for the classic rebound effect, data traffic costs nothing more, so we use it up to the limit...

I doubt it, Bitcoin mining accounts for about 0.2% of global electricity consumption, and THIS produces carbon dioxide for sure.

yes, then what ? Has Quantas window dressing to please the crowd any bearing on reality ?  This is a very political and divisive topic to say the least. And to think that a game could be an issue, well, it is bizarre. But why not, let the circus begin.

Didn't the circus start already then? I've been 'enjoying' the show for a while now, I think we're just getting closer to the main act. If we give them ideas they might introduce a flight simulator or cloud usage tax one day 😞

I can see it happen already, taxes on virtual jet fuel.

Unfortunately that's a very point Erik!   Given the fact that streaming porno videos already requires more power than e.g. Hungary needs, this is indeed a factor.

For my part I'm going to download a few areas where I'm going to fly at and I'm definitely not planning to use streaming when flying in any sim.

I think that's a bit optimistic for MSFS, a top title game yes will outsell MSFS by millions and will be the main income for the catalogue on XBOX XCLOUD.

PS some of the most popular web forums for flight sim  are lucky if they get a 100,000 members.

It did. And there are already «  good » souls to propose to tax the emails,Why not the games or any streaming?

It would be great if about 3.7 billion of you could just die, please. Less demand on resources.

The remaining 4 billion need to stop consuming animal products from mass farming, just go back to hunting to prevent the release of 188 million tons of methane.

Oh and no heat or light either, please. Nor transportation other than walking.

Can we drain wetlands? Prevents another 167 million tons of methane from being released.

Can we also stop volcanic eruptions? That would stop 270 million tons of CO2. Just put a giant plug in every vent - that should stop them.

I can then get back to my flight simming.
Climate change sorted 👍

Ohhhh, much better.

Let's have a petition to shot down Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 because the thereat of not being in compliance CO2 emission and also not being organic.

That's totally unacceptable, let's get out on the streets and start demonstrations and collect money for the law suits now.

SAVE THE PLANET, MICROSOFT IS DEVELOPING ANOTHER SOFTWARE.

STOP USING THE INTERNET ALTOGETHER.

I wonder how is that you on internet now and transmitting/using data from the Internet

I'm willing to bet MSFS sells at least 2 million copies within the first two months. Also, don't forget Game Pass is a thing. A lot of people will get into the sim for a fraction of the cost (when everything on offer is considered.

I do think the OP blowing things out of proportion to a ridiculous degree tho.
