TFDi 717 CTD?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I was thinking of buying the TFDi 717 for FSX:SE since it goes on sale on Cyber Monday. However, I have read many reviews that say whenever they change views the sim crashes. Is this just a P3D thing or is it for all sims?

Many Thanks.

Still the same, and TFDi will not be providing updates/fixes.

Can also confirm what Dave has stated, which is why after the euphoria at Cosford 2018, it's now 'hangared', another wasted buy.

Although there will be no further new features or other significant changes to the TFDI 717 — according to a post on their forum less than 1 week ago by one of the developers, the crash on view change bug is still being actively worked on. They have identified the root cause, and are running a special test build of P3D provided by LM for further troubleshooting.

In my own case, running the 717 in multiple versions of P3D V 4.x over the past 2 years, I have never experienced the view-change crash even one single time - (and I have tried to deliberately provoke it by making multiple view changes.)

But, I know that others have seen it many times. AFAIK, this particular bug only affects the P3D version of the aircraft. Any remaining bugs in the FSX version indeed may not be addressed going forwards.

I personally don't have this issue.

Me neither. It's a very curious and frustrating problem. I feel for both TFDi and customers impacted by this.

The CTD on view change thing does NOT happen in FSX, so buy with confidence if that is your platform. Just be aware the 717 is definitely a VAS hog so be careful using it with a bunch of AI at detailed airports (you know the drill.)

I used to suffer from this problem in P3Dv4.5, until the last update, probably flown 100 hrs since then without CTD, although I have cut down on external views during flight using Chaseplane. I'm getting 2.5hrs each flight. Some users are still getting the CTD. I find it a good aircraft with good system detail, but the CTD still plagues some.

One interim solution they found that seems to prevent the problem (for those who have it), is removing the external model - but that’s obviously not a good long-term fix.

I've had the CTD problem with the 717 as far back as I can remember and I've owned it since original release date. I was having issues with it CTD back on P3Dv3.4. I have since built two complete systems, moved from P3Dv3.4 to 4.x and different OS and still have the CTD problems from time to time. For years they have been saying they were working on it with LM. The 717 is approaching 3 years and it still CTD's for many. Every now and then I will pull it out of  storage to see if anything change, nope, back in the hanger. I do hope they come up with something but I’m not holding my breath.

When I first bought the plane I was still running P3DV4 under Win7 with no problems. As soon as I upgraded to Win10 this CTD started. 6 or so months ago several users working with the developer ran a number of tests by removing plane components in steps without a result. The developer then provided a test build to LM as per their requirements back in November 2019. In mid-December the developer announced that LM had confirmed to them that it is a P3D bug to do with texture swizzling and that LM were working on a fix/workaround. According to the developer just last week LM says it's still on their list to do. It's interesting that this bug seems to only affect this plane and no others that I'm aware of.

The CTD seems to occur randomly when switching views from inside to outside the plane. Sticking to inside views only works for me.
