Will Microsoft Flight Simulator be the last one? Like W10?

Featured Replies

So none of the branding I've seen posted online and that worn by the dev team in videos shows Flight Simulator 2020 even though they've said it'll be out some time next year. So this got me thinking, is this because we won't have 2 year release cycles for Flight Simulator anymore?

Sort of like how Windows 10 was the last Windows version and MS now focus on delivering incremental features every few months for different parts of the OS. Maybe we'll see a similiar strategy with the new FS?

It's a 10 year project for them so I wouldn't expect a 2022 or 2025 version anytime soon (well, at those points in time obviously).

What you say makes sense except I would think that this sort of schedule would drive the 3rd party Devs nuts. They are almost always way behind with the new releases of P3D and X-Pain. Hard to imagine.

I think it will be a very long living flight sim which Microsoft will continually develop for and update, likely selling addons or planes or other DLC for it.

And I'm perfectly okay with that.

I would expect it to follow the example set by Adobe, where updates to my Photoshop and Lightroom are on a very cost friendly subscription.  I am now seven years on into the Adobe plan and I have spent less than 1.5X the previous cost of what used to be for one update for just one of those programs.  Those costly updated versions of each program came about every 18 months.

Let's forget about version or release numbers.  Just MSFS, last updated mm/dd/yyyy.

My feeling on this is that I would be happy to pay a $10 a month subscription for MSFS. Their is a developer license for P3D. I believe its $10 a month and it can be run on 2 PC's simultaneously. I'd like that with MSFS. If that where the case I would build 2 high end systems to run it run it with sets of controls and 2 VR headsets. All that for shared cockpit. I have no end of friends who are far superior pilots to me with far more experience and I'm the kind of learner who need a teacher.

I'm not sure about whether it will be the last, but the devs have said it's a 10 year project which will continuously receive updates and new features/functionality so I would say it is pretty much confirmed to be similar to W10.

THIS I agree with!

I've been on that package since day 1. It's a relative no-brainer, although it also means I've given significantly more $$$ to LM than I ever gave to MS for flightsim.

Which is why Microsoft are calling it Microsoft Flight Simulator, without any date!!

Imagine the guys calling X-Plane 2020!!

For some reason, people calling it msfs 2020 really annoys me.

perhaps it’s time to get out more.

The reason why people are calling it MSFS 2020 is to distinguish if from MSFSX and MSFS2004 and MSFS2002 and MSFS2000 and MSFS98 and MSFS5.1 and MSFS5.0 and MSFS4.0 and MSFS3.0 and MSFS2.0 and MSFS1.0

Before that it was called SubLOGIC FS so the confusion ends there.😁 and I beat there will be SubLOGIC code in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

In the interim since MSFSX its gone by the name of Prepar3D under version 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0,2.1,2.2,2.3,2.4,3.0,3.1,3.2,3.3,3.4,3.5,4.0,4.1,4.2,4.3,4.4,4.5,4.5hf1,4.5hf2.

Up to now they have all been basically the same program and will continue to be the same program.

If I may correct you..

What you surmise makes no sense, as NONE of the previous sims ever had the prefix of MS in front of their official names. FS2004 was NEVER known as MSFS2004, neither was FSX EVER known as MSFSX, ever!

As we all know, Microsoft calls their product Microsoft Flight Simulator shortend to MSFS.

I cannot understand how their can be any confusion with this and any other sim. They all have their own forums.

It actually started here on Avsim with thumb sucked renaming. Interestingly enough, none of the other forums were confused with the official naming.

As for a post remaining the sim to FS20... Which is the official shortend name for the new Farming Simulator...  As well as naming the forthcoming Xbox to XBOX 2020..(We are aware that the new Xbox, one of the versions anyway, has been named Xbox X

You never see X-Plane called X-Plane 2020..

Avsimmers, it's actually quite simple, and not confusing at all.. No date or numbers in the name. No 2020, 20, XX or any thing else.. Duh!

Popcorn 2019 time...

Whether or not it makes sense to you, there actually has been confusion in other forums with people posting questions intended for other sims in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series in the forum for the upcoming sim.

Meh!

Sorry, you just cannot justify renaming something for that reason. The polite thing that should have been done would be to redirect the writer of the post, instead of just deciding to thumb-suck a name that is actually more confusing than the proper name.

Why is nobody calling the FSX beta FSX 2019?

How can anyone, especially here, confuse Microsoft Flight Simulator, or MSFS, with FS2004, FS9, FSX, P3D?

Every body here should be aware of the differences.. It's not rocket science.
