Everything Online Is Getting Bigger Except Your ISP’s Data C

Featured Replies

Here paying 30€/mo (33$/mo) for unlimited 1gbps internet (France). And 15€/mo for unlimited 4G data. US ISPs really seems from another age...

You are forgetting everything else people use data for at the house such as streaming Netflix 4k movies, Amazon Prime Video, watching YouTube, etc... That drastically cuts your 222hr mark.

I couldn't agree more. I will NEVER use my bandwith for a flight simulator. Life's too short to dance with an ugly woman..................

We moved one town over this Summer and went from Comcast with 1TB/month datacap to Centurylink fiber with NO datacap, and a massive 1Gb/s in BOTH directions.  So much better.  This is the problem with most cities in the U.S. - there's only 2 hard-wired ISP options available in most places, and they don't really compete.  One of them is cheap (phone company) and one of them is fast (cable company).

Thankfully, my ISP has no data caps or bandwidth throttling based on usage. I get to use my 250 down 125 up as much as I want to.

That doesn't block the ads from being pushed through.  It just stops them from displaying.

Nope, that's incorrect.  Ad blockers remove the elements of the ad directly from the domain object tree, which is a structure the browser builds based on HTML document of the web page.  Since your browser only downloads content referenced in the domain object tree, the ad being blocked is never downloaded.

If it were only blocking the display of the ad in your browser then websites wouldn't know you are running an ad blocker, but they do, and that's why they implore you to white list their site with those pesky popups when they detect ads being blocked.  It's because they don't get ad revenue when you run a blocker.

Well... my bandwidth monitor would disagree with that statement in that I can sit on certain websites and watch literally thousands of ads get blocked and watch the byte transfers increase with the ad count.  So... I'm pretty certain the ads are still getting through onto the computer before being discarded.

This is from Ghostery’s web site:

”Script/Ad Blockers work by blocking a web page’s requests to download content from the servers that host them.”

I purchased COD Modern Warfare not available on steam for the PC, 175GB download for the basic standard edition, the ISP`s will have to buck up or they will loose customers to the one giving the best service when there will be 5 game streaming platforms in just over a year, and the ones that have taken note and have plans in place will win.

Unless there is a monopoly in your area like mine. Or if all the options have the same exact caps.
