January 2, 20206 yr I purchased COD Modern Warfare not available on steam for the PC, 175GB download for the basic standard edition, the ISP`s will have to buck up or they will loose customers to the one giving the best service when there will be 5 game streaming platforms in just over a year, and the ones that have taken note and have plans in place will win. January 2, 20206 yr Wait, people still have data caps? Average Australian internet connection here and haven't had a data cap in probably 7 or 8 years.
January 2, 20206 yr I think most people in Europe don't have to deal with data caps. I can't say for the rest of the world however. If anything, more than datacap it's the overall speed of internet which is not up to par with the size of games. Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

It's very common in areas where the ISP has an effective monopoly with no competition. In my small town here in Washington State USA there are only two choices for Internet: One is a slow DSL line from the legacy landline phone company, the other is higher bandwidth cable Internet from the legacy cable TV provider. I pay $10 a month more on my cable Internet for unlimited data. If we had more than one high bandwidth provider in my town, there might be enough competition that every service tier would be unlimited. But as long as a local market can be "captured" as a monopoly like this, an ISP can insert additional price tiers based on caps and not just speed. January 2, 20206 yr In the last 20 years I've moved around 10 times. Availability and quality of internet connections has been the VERY first thing I've looked for in the areas I've planned to move to every single time. I can live without mains water - I'd install a well / whatever if necessary, but high quality internet is a must. The type of internet available to you has a direct impact on the value of your property and I can only see that value increasing as time goes by.
January 2, 20206 yr We have data caps here, but 1000GB/month is a lot of data still. At 10Mbps (the rate needed for the highest-res scenery in the coming MSFS per a recent interview with Asobo) that's 222 hours of simming a month, or about 7.5 hours a day. If you need more than that much data, the extra $10/month seems justified to me. The caps were put there because, as is the case just about anytime you tell people they have "unlimited" (fill in the blank) is that some will take advantage of it and be pigs about it, e.g. stream 4K video for 20 hours a day or set up a porn server in their basement. The highest I've ever gone is about 500GB after I bought a bunch of games on sale at Steam and downloaded them all at once, and I had streamed a larger-than-normal amount of Hulu/Netflix content that month as well. January 2, 20206 yr Author Taking in consideration that in our days the airline pilots (121) are limited to max 120 hard flight hours per month, I don't see any issue with 222 hours of simming a month. And being a pig I like the idea having a server in my basement. 😂 Bob, you made me laugh for a while. 🍻 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
January 2, 20206 yr I don't know if that's true everywhere except it seems to be commonplace on dating sites. Lol

You are forgetting everything else people use data for at the house such as streaming Netflix 4k movies, Amazon Prime Video, watching YouTube, etc... That drastically cuts your 222hr mark. Eric

January 3, 20206 yr IIRC the devs said you can pre-cache the data before a flight with an example being London - Frankfurt is about 10G. So you could in theory just pay the cost of the scenery once thereafter use the rest of your bandwidth for the weather , live aircraft/shipping data...and of course Netflix and other things!
