EP5 Soundscape

Featured Replies

The  EP5  Discovery video will be about sounds. I'd be interesting to hear from real pilots here what they expect from FS20, where it can be better. Specially from the driver seat, engine regimes, environmental noises, clicks etc.

Strangely enough I want to listen to the rain falling on the plane when it's in its cold and dark state. I hope that's done well and with a peal of thunder every now and again.

I'm waiting for the brainwashed to make the inevitable comment that Microsoft can't do it all, and wait for 3rd party developers to do it. 😞

but environmental sounds would do so much. Waves crashing at the beaches, birds chirping, the roar of Victoria falls. We can dream of using one more sense in simulation on top of vision.

Same here. I remember Flight Unlimited 2 had great rain effects for that time, both visually and acoustically, and I loved flying in rainy weather. Since then it has been disappointing. I hope MSFS can bring back that gerat atmosphere.

Is asking for the roar of locals in Papua new Guinea as you land to deliver supplies too much? Lol

Actually I was a little surprised by the announcement of the EP5. I was under the impression that most of noises (oops, sorry sounds) in P3D and FSX were part of aircraft models and not the simulation engine except thunder.

Just the little things.  For example, in urban areas, maybe some sounds of cars.  A few car horns here and there. Also, add some air horns to trains/ships.  Birds chirping.  Crickets/frogs making noises in the evening hours, etc.  Won’t hear it with engines running, but adds a lot in the cold/dark state in small Ga aircraft at rural airports.  But also, the sound of AI needs to be improved.  I want to hear the roar of the engines when another jet takes off in front of me.

+1

You said it yourself, you won't be able to hear all these sounds when flying, or just when the engine(s) are running That's also why I find it highly unrealistic with programs like FSCrew, where you can hear all the cabin anouncements, safety procedures etc As we spend the time as the pilot in the cockpit, you WON*T hear this during a flight, and we want it to be "as real as possible", well then tht'a just the opposite

But let's wait til after the Soundscape video is out to maybe get a better idea of what they include and prioritize in it

But improved AI sounds would be great, so that's a +1 from me

I hope that there is just the general sound of being outside. As it stands, unless there are other AI around it's like being in the vacuum of space or something.  Maybe airport developers can include this. Just stand outside at an airport or near one and record the sounds. Even adding that wind sound you hear in spotter videos when the wind blows across the mic would make it feel more alive when in spot view

I want to hear the sound of silence from many of the critics when MS finally release this cracker of a sim 😉

The sound of ATC with different regional accents.

My brother has Coronavirus, confirmed by testing. On 3/26 he almost didn't survive the night.  He had extreme trouble breathing and was given a steroid inhaler.  He was very weak, had nausea, and other issues that aren't pleasant.  As of this update he is feeling much better, and seems he will be fine.  Stay safe out there.  (Updated 4/6)

I totally agree. There are two distinct groups of people in this forum: (1) those who imagine themselves to be 3rd party developers but who aren't, and, (2) those who are indeed 3rd party developers but who pretend they aren't, so they can anonymously post glowing comments about their own products.

Totally understand your point.  I was just referring to when the engines are shut off and in outside view or with windows open.  If they add hot air balloons ever, this would add a lot to that experience as well.

Or hang gliders and paragliders.  (I say this as a Hang Glider pilot)  And then there are those times when you use the whole plane parachute system.
