EP5 Soundscape

Or maybe they'll just talk about the sounds in general? Not only the environmental sound effects.

We only have 2 senses in use when simming. Seeing and hearing. I realy hope we will have realistic sounds in both piston, turboprop engines and jets.envirement sounds, as well as high quality Ai aircraft 3D sounds. I want to hear the roar of the jet engines when the ai takeoff and lands.

Besides the actual sound files, modelling the speed of sound according to atmospheric conditions would add enormously to the immersion, and also by extension - accurate Doppler effect.

Yeah I get a feeling this is what the episode is going to be about vs "here Lionel will idle the throttles of the TBM over Dinaric Mountains and you will be able to hear ze gentle snore of the sleeping bears".

most of the posts in this thread are missing the main point.. most important aspect of soundscapes is how the aircraft sounds at various positions, i.e. cockpit, passenger cabin, etc.. in XP11, you have FMOD which gives amazing immersion of the soundscape.. you can take a tour from the cockpit where you hear the avionics humming and then walk along the cabin where you hear the packs and the tone of engine sound changes, and finally the rear where the APU sound gets louder.. this is a BIG deal and any decent aircraft in XP11 is expected to have FMOD.. this may not reverberate much with the P3D crowd as the commercial aircraft in P3D typically don't have cabins.. but some devs like PMDG do a fantastic job of simulating the sounds at different places in the airframe.. i love the PMDG 777 GE90 sounds behind the wing and even though it doesnt have a cabin, the soundscape more than makes up for it..

This is a huge one for me. Getting the ambient sound environment right at a busy airport would be incredible.

Do people just sit in a cold and dark plane and listen to sounds?  Even in a cold  n dark you won't hear most things

I just don't care at all about ambient external sounds.  Interior...yeah I care because without a headset you'll hear switches and gyros avionics etc

Well, when I rode the jumpseat the other week from O’hare, I was wearing a lightweight headset (same as the pilots), and the B773 that took off in front of us, definitely made a large roar. You can’t necessarily here them at taxi thrust, but you definitely can hear them at takeoff and reverse thrust settings.

Totally understand your point.  I was just referring to when the engines are shut off and in outside view or with windows open.  If they add hot air balloons ever, this would add a lot to that experience as well.

That would be a lot of extra work and faffing around for sounds that you'd only have a chance of hearing for the 0.1% of the time the planes engines are completely shut off and the windows are open, haha.

I'd expect maybe a few general ambient soundscapes at the most - city, rural, etc.  Everything else would be better allocated to the planes themselves, airports, etc.

Just the little things.  For example, in urban areas, maybe some sounds of cars.  A few car horns here and there. Also, add some air horns to trains/ships.  Birds chirping.  Crickets/frogs making noises in the evening hours, etc.  Won’t hear it with engines running, but adds a lot in the cold/dark state in small Ga aircraft at rural airports.  But also, the sound of AI needs to be improved.  I want to hear the roar of the engines when another jet takes off in front of me.

Yeah, I added it to minecraft recently (I Know I KNow..) and those small thinds add ssoo much it is insane.

I'm just happy we'll have something of real substance to talk about later today. The more this place is buzzing the happier I am.

Everyone else are flying alpha, so it might be quiet here, even after new update.

Not me. With my poor peasant PC which only has 16GB of RAM, I only can see the Discovery Episodes.

Strangely enough I want to listen to the rain falling on the plane when it's in its cold and dark state. I hope that's done well and with a peal of thunder every now and again.

Looks like you got your wish!
