October 10, 200619 yr George, Hook up with me on voice on msn on [email protected] and let's talk about "what if" and let's make some postitive changes combining our technologies and skills.I've got a team 6 strong and growing. Soon there will be an announcment of a very well known name that I'm now partner to.So come on.... no more moans.Let's talk "What if"
October 10, 200619 yr Thanks Eddy,Flying the British "Gentelman" flag there buddy. Well done.Yes, we have to be patient here to get the full retail version. It's worth waiting for and it's going to be a lot of fun.... and yes, some frustrations until you learn to set it up right for your system.Once set though, it flys..... better than FS9... way better.
October 10, 200619 yr Of course, the problem is that it doesn't work now on the "average" system. On the "average" system it's now often a slideshow. As I've said many times already, MS has abandoned the Joe-Average-User. Joe Average doesn't know about, nor care about, AVSIM nor patches nor the like. All Joe Average wants is an enjoyable experience right out-of-the-box on his two year old Dell that he shares with his wife and kids.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. October 10, 200619 yr welcome,Awesome things possible.....FSX team did a wonderful job.Look for what is dark and you'll find it but it takes genius to find invention and the light in others.FSX does both.
October 10, 200619 yr I'd love to Peter but I've got a hooker & a pizza coming over in 20mins.Seriously, if you have something in mind, give Martin an email. He might be up for it & he has more time & sense than me :)But neither of us are very $ driven. We just do it for fun & usually prefer to fly solo.Good luck with your venture though.Cheers, george
October 10, 200619 yr >Maybe you need to read it again...One post by one developer isn't going to stop me from enjoying FSX which I have been enjoying, by the way.
October 10, 200619 yr George and Jimmy make some extrememly valid points. I know that my P4 2.4, 1GB, 6600GT system does just dandy with FS9 with complex aircraft and scenery and I'm throwing just about everything at her except the kitchen sink. For me, I'm happy with 20fps and smooth performance with my settings at 3/4 tilt. I was able to get some pretty darn good frame rates and smoothness with just the default install when I first started with FS9 almost a year and half ago. I'm a happy FS9 user, so yay for me :( The first demo version of FSX ran just barely OKAY for me. But why in the world would I buy a $70 program that I have to pull back the sliders to get it to run decently and visually at what cost? Sure, I have the new version of FS but it most likely won't look as pretty as my FS9 with UT USA, BEV, REP, AS6, Flytampa and FZ02. Importing my payware aircraft will only ensure I'm watching a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation instead of flying a simulator. Looking at MS's minimum specs for FSX is laughable and I think everyone here agrees with this. It will indeed run on that computer granted it may look like Snoopy and the Red Baron for the Atari 2600. I have two good friends who also tinker with FS9 now and then and they asked me if it (FSX) would run on their systems (both have P4 1.8ghz Dells). My response was less than enthusiastic to MS's FSX target audience. In my opinion, the discussion of whether FSX will run better with Vista and DX10 is almost like discussing snake oil. It seems as if MS is throwing all their eggs in one basket in the hopes that this is the end-all-be-all cure for performace. I'm in the group here that can't afford a major component upgrade every year or a 3k grand, dual-core, monster rig right now. But the one thing that has caught my eye in the last week or so is that I haven't seen any posts here on Avsim by the ACES team since the retail was available on store shelves, that was informative or addressing technical/performance issues with the sim. I've seen Tdragger respond to snarky posts with his own sarcasm, but that's about it. Correct me if I'm wrong and maybe I'm not looking at the right posts or section of these forums. I've seen one informative and honest blog entry from PC-12. I realize that my opinion is my own and I don't post often and have been a member of this community for a short while. I'm reminded of Kevin Bacon from "Animal House" at the end of the movie screaming "ALL IS WELL!!!" Maybe in two years or so I'll look at FSX, at this point FSX may run beautifully and I'll be banging my head at the wall at the thought of trying to run FS11. Blake
October 10, 200619 yr Moderator >I can understand staying ahead of the curve by 6 months or>maybe even a year, but 3 years? What is the point in that?FSX is like a rose; to appreciate it's full beauty, one should watch the delicate bud slowly unfold to eventually reveal it's full, glorious majesty... :-abduct Fr. October 10, 200619 yr >Hi to all,>>Is FSX worth buying? You bet it is!You are an addon developer. Your livelihood and business depend, in part, on Micrsoft turning out new versions of FS. So, of course you would "plug" the new version. I don't have a problem with that at all. I immensely enjoy your products and will continue buying them, but your opinion in the matter of whether FSX is worth buying or not is simply too biased. For me, the decision to switch to the new version will be solely based on what other users are saying about performance, addon-portability, etc. ricardo
October 10, 200619 yr The point is your coming down on Eric as if he's the problem. When a developer of some importance like FlyTampa chimes in that there's valid issues with FSX I would think it's time to stop drinking the Cool Aid..."One post by one developer isn't going to stop me from enjoying FSX"Enjoy away but respect the fact that your precious FSX is not all it should be. I find it disturbing you mention FlyTampa in such a meaningless way. FlyTampa is one of the best scenery developers around if not the best next to FlightZone. October 10, 200619 yr Peter,Thanks for your incisive and positive comments. It is a good thing that this world was populated with some positive, can do thinkers like your self or we would still all be living in caves and rubbing two sticks together trying to start a fire. We progress by trying and sometimes failing, but trying again. Walking away from something that may not meet your desires never solves anything.I have always felt that the glass is half full, rather than half empty, and if you look closer it may still be filling up.The one thing I don't quite understand, is FSX hasn't even been released, yet many seem to feel that the few whiners who have it, through whatever means, are the only voices worth listening too and those that are positive should only be chastised and made fun of. I am sure that the number who have a released copy is a very, very, very small percentage of the total after release. Thanks again Peter to you and all of the "positive thinkers", it is just to bad that we can't divide the forum into "can do and can't do" entrys. Then those of us who believe we can even make it better can get on with it without having to wade through all of the comments from those who just want to give up and spend their time whinning.Looking forward to getting my deluxe copy sometime after the 17th and trying some of the excellent tweaks already developed.Tom
October 10, 200619 yr Oops, you're right I meant KLGA... Sorry... :-)"I just wish the SDK could be a little more artist friendly."Keep speaking up about this George or else it will never happen...
