Want ORBX FTX Central version 3 BACK!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all.

I seemed to have fixed my elevation at KLAS (that was the troublesome elevation for me).

I nstalled Vector....then I reinstalled it.  I reinstalled McCarran Las Vegas and all seems well now.  Not sure what exactly happened but I'm happy.

Thanks again for the tips.

thus having to order them manually in the proper or required way.

When I said manually I refer to the need to use the excellent P4AO from Lorby-SI. Thanks god we have it.

I fully recommend this utility to everyone.

That is so peculiar. I also have the Lorby program but have yet to find a need for it.

Orbx , properly set up, does everything automatically. My sim works a treat.

Have you ever installed an addon using the addon.xml method? and without the need of editing the xml yourself?. Well, the Lorby tool does it for you. Apart of this, the tools allows to change the layering order of your scenery.cfg file including the ones added through the addon.xml.

Hey Ed-

I did not find that to be the case. Some sceneries would refuse to move and others would snap back to the original or completely different locations after using the up/down arrows. I also had PS states buried in the base layers. I don't think it's necessarily the addon's fault though and for many the app works just fine. Also, if you ever uninstall the app, be sure under the 'Packages' tab that you have activated all (green) because if you don't, you get to manually remove the disable tag from every xml by hand.

That's happened to me too, but if you group them together it will work and for me it hasn't been really an important issue. As I said before, I find the app very handy and useful during setting up a new installation of P3D to use the addon.xml method in a reliable and fast way, and for reordering the scenery layers after a running instance of ORBX Central.

....which is really what Lockheed Martin should have thought about before switching to the addon.xml method in P3D.

I had an issue with floating scenery objects at Orbx Telluride this afternoon and tried running OC 4.1 (after backing up my config files with P3D Addon Manager).  Without the backup in place it would have been a real disaster.  All I wanted was to run the file checker on KTEX and to update a handful of other sceneries.

In the process of doing that, OC completely borked my scenery configuration, placing all the Orbx stuff at the top and randomly re-ordering my hundreds of other add-on sceneries somewhere below their regional stuff, landclass, etc.  Thankfully, the recovery from the backup was fairly simple with the Lorby-SI utility (hat tip to Oliver yet again).

I wish they'd get this figured out.  Letting OC touch my config feels less like managing my configuration and more like playing a game of chance, specifically, one played with a revolver and a single cartridge.

The Insertion Point function seems not to have been used.

As @Reader mentioned, this indicates that you have not set your "Insertion Point" in the Orbx Central settings. By default, Orbx scenery will be placed at the top of your scenery library.

When you first started Central, it would have shown an onboarding screen that informs you about scenery ordering. This screen has since been updated (after this screenshot) to explicitly mention the "Insertion Point" functionality.

Maybe that screen shows up with a new install...

Still doesn't explain why all my other hundreds of sceneries, which are ordered by author and ICAO code to keep it manageable, were re-ordered--I think "scrambled" would be a fair description actually--below the ORBX stuff seemingly at random.

Does Lorby-SI have an add-on organizer for P3Dv4.5?

Sure.  I've used it with every version of P3Dv4 since v4.0 released, currently on 4.5 HF2
