Any way to generate Photoreal?

Featured Replies

So I have a lot of friends on X-plane that just go onto Ortho4xp and generate a photoreal file for themselves and it actually works. I used FSEarthTiles for P3DV4.5 and it didn't work and I wondered if there is any alternative that you can pick what area of photoreal you want to generate like in Ortho4xp.
Cheers, Alex.

Yes there is. Ortho4XP_v130 now works for FSX/P3D as well. Last I checked though (2 months ago), it does not build any autogen overlays. It is just as easy as building scenery for XPlane, since it is the same program.. I haven't checked it lately since I've been rebuilding my computer, but I'll check it in the next day or so. I have built some and then bought autogen packages online to compliment what I built and it looks good, though not quite as good as XPlane.

FS Earth Tiles, have been using it for years, highly recommended.

The first place to look is the P3D Learning Center.  The SDK world section has a 'how to guide' for creating photorealistic terrain and suggested sources for the photographic information.

Me too. It works great and is simple to use.

With v1.03 making coastlines / deepwater transitions has become even easier.

You can find a link to it here

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/160337-ortho4xp-v130-exe-version/

On the first post, the bottom line, select the " Windows binary package for v130 " link for the windows version of it. There is also a link for the python version as well.

I do not see any links in the first post, even though he states that it is in his signature....

Always nice when you look up something on Google and it brings you back to a thread you've been posting in... 🙂

Hi CaptainAlex, sorry I missed your post the first time.Yes, I can help. What is your problem with FS Earth Tiles?

On a broader note, this topic is more relevant than ever, as Prepar3D v5 with the atmospheric rendering makes orthoscenery shine. Very clear, and color palate far less depressing than that obtained with X-plane.

I have been building North coast of Spain (around Orbx LEAS) and Florida panhandle this weekend, adding Real World Scenery to the latter.

Strangely, many simmers don't even realize that they cam easily build ortho for P3D. Everyone with X-plane knows how to do this, but the main community discussing this for FSX/Prepar3D via FS Earth Tiles was over on FSPassengers years ago.

It would be good to see more discussion of ortho creation and scenery construction in general on the P3D forum.

I haven't tried Ortho4XP_P3D yet, though I've covered most of the world with the X-plane version. Who is using this? How are you finding it?

Hi Gerard,

I'm using FSET v1.03b with P3D v4.5/v5.

Re: coastlines - do you mean the fact that you can block out areas so that tiles do not download? Coastlines are unfortunatley still a labor-intensive task for me, which i the main reason that an automated tool like Ortho4Xp would be great.

Re: deepwater transitions - any further clarification you can provide? I current mask coastlines with the blue "autogen" color. I've experimented with different mask colors, but I normally see annoying transitions between the areas so I usually just stick to one mask type now.

Cheers!

I am using it. It works mostly well. I say “mostly” because my only complaint would be that there are occasional strips where, for some reason, the ugly land class scenery peeks thru. I don’t know why that happens but it does. Other than that, it’s more or less point and click. Add on top of that, you can use it with scenproc so that it will generate 3d buildings/vegetation based on OSM data on top of the photoreal so you’re not in just a completely flat world. Overall, it’s great and way faster/easier than fsearth tiles.

Regards,
