March 11, 20206 yr At the FS Nordic Conference 2020 Mathijs Kok of Aerosoft was interviewed, and, among other things they talked about, he mentioned that they are 'excited' about the new sim (interview) and that they will not simply port the Airbus 330 and the CRJ but want to use the new features of the new sim. Also, they want to implement the Twin Otter for the new sim. Siggy Schwarz
March 11, 20206 yr While on the other hand he answered quite vaguely on future Prepar3d5 products (making their development dependent on projected sales). Yes, he properly referred to the NDA, but he's certainly under NDA for MSFS as well. March 11, 20206 yr Products for XP1x and P3d5 will be a fallbacks for most developers in the unlikely event that MSFS 2020 is either delayed or flops. But if MSFS is a hit, the switch will be almost immediate and the legacy sims will get far less attention.
March 11, 20206 yr Knowing the history of Aerosoft, there's a good chance that the A330 for MSFS will be ready in 2022. Mathijs was asked about development stages for a new product from the beginning until release, and explicited stated it takes 5 years. Kind regards, Michael Intel i7-13700K / AsRock Z790 / Crucial 32 GB DDR 5 / ASUS RTX 4080OC 16GB / BeQuiet ATX 1000W / WD m.2 NVMe 2TB (System) / WD m.2 NVMe 4 TB (MSFS) / WD HDD 10 TB / XTOP+Saitek hardware panel / LG 34UM95 3440 x 1440 / HP Reverb 1 (2160x2160 per eye) / Win 11
March 11, 20206 yr 5 years, that's just ridicolus. Even if they they choose to start all, over how on earth can they justify it to take that long, for G..'s sake it's not a whole new flight simulator they have to build (MS/Asobo have already done that for them). I will bet almost anything, that none of the other big players like PMDG, FSLabs, Qualitywings etc. will take anywhere near that time to convert their aircrafts to MSFS, I'm sure the mentioned companies can somehow convert their P3D models to use the new features of MSFS, so why is that different for Aerosoft? And yes, as you might have guessed, I'm NOT a big fan of Aerosoft, but to claim it will take 5 years, that's just ridicolus, yes I said it again. Jorn Lundtoft I don't always stop and look at airplanes.........Oh wait, Yes I do. March 11, 20206 yr Now I don't know about aircraft addon development, but since they have already developed an A330 they must have the knowledge about the real aircraft covered already which would surely cut the time needed to develop it for the new sim. Given they're not starting development entirely from the ground up for a whole new aircraft type 5 years does seem a bit excessive for this one. At least to me.
March 11, 20206 yr I do not understand his statement in a way that it will take five years to do the A330 for MSFS. He was more generally asked how long it takes from the idea of a project to the final product. And that would be five years for a complex aircraft like an Airbus. Obviously they don't have to start from scratch with the A330 for MSFS so it will be a lot less than 5 years from now.

You are right, he referred to completely new projects indeed. But still, subtract the first phase so there remain 3 years, at least - pretty long in our short-lived environment and given development cycles of the sims. March 11, 20206 yr They might be working on it for almost one year already when MSFS releases, since they seem to have been involved quite early. Anyway it will be interesting to see how long it takes to have 3PD complex airliners in MSFS.

PMDG have recently opened hiring for additional developers and mentioned development for MSFS alongside that. This might indicate they're, perhaps, gearing up for MSFS development already. Given they fully embraced the new sim I would think there is much more going on behind closed doors at this point. Edited March 11, 20206 yr by threegreen
