Installed P3dv5 today. My mind is made up!

Yes, I don’t use the beta

So what we have then is an improved v4 : better water and higher FPS.

LM has said that in a few weeks a Hotfix will be released that addresses several issues like CTD’s and the high memory usage.

The last one seems also seems to be a little less with the just released NV driver .

People are gonna be mad once they start installing add-ons and realize they have to turn off any new graphics enhancements in v5.

@sgreen91 doesn't seem to be very mad.

I got V5 as well from the start, although I have not really had the time to do a lengthy sit-down with it. I have, however, installed some ORBX stuff (I'm kind of using ORBX ESSA as a kind of a personal benchmark). Of course the performance is absolutely stellar but that is to be expected because I am using a default aircraft and no other bells and whistles that I use in v 4.5. I am slightly annoyed about blurry ground textures though. Have you guys experienced this? They seem to be way more crisp in v 4.5.

That said; I am optimistic about v5 and can't wait to get native installers for my 3rd party fleet.

Even without the beta, the lighting is so much better. I tried different weather scenarios without beta, like mist and fog was amazing! It is not only a improved v4 it is much better.

Yes, there are shader improvements beyond the 'beta' option.

I have read somewhere that if you disable the Armopheric feature you can use third party clouds ...

One of the main reasons I was excited for v5 was trueSky. The fact that it's basically useless is all the more reason not to upgrade.

Yep.  My mind is made up and P3dv5 is a REAL WINNER in my book!  Wow.  It's so good that I deleted all folders and files for P3d v4.5 not too long after.

First of all, P3d v5 is not so good without ORBX.  All of my ORBX files converted beautifully into v5.  What a difference it makes in the autogen, the scenery, and the realism.  Wouldn't fly without it..

Also, I pointed REX SkyForce to v5.  I was able to choose new clouds, and because I don't have Active Sky yet, I used the SkyForce Weather option.  I was very, very pleased with that.  I flew from KABE (Allentown, Pa) to KIPT (Williamsport, Pa) which is about 70 miles or so, and within 40 miles of KIPT there were beautiful snowflakes and reduced visibility.  The runways at KIPT were so realistic with snow and ice and overall wetness.

I am EXTREMELY impressed with performance.  Most of my sliders are full right and where I was getting 25-30 FPS in version 4, I am getting an unbelievable 50 to 70  (and greater) FPS with no stutters....and only very smooth flying.  I was flying the Commander and the Maule all day, and now I'm looking forward to some heavy iron and business/regional jets.  I especially like the CRJ's.

So far, so good.  I think this is going to be a wonderful marriage.

Hi Stan,

I've been through similar motions like you, but today I installed most Orbx products and I'm currently using REX Sky Force 3D and its weather engine. I have never seen a sim look so good and run so smooth! And I too have been very skeptical upon first booting up v5. I still haven't even scratched the surface of what settings I prefer as a IFR commercial type simmer.

Until then, this is looking pretty good imho 😉

Looks just like v4.5 in these photos.  Plug in NGXu and see how it performs then.

I'm assuming that everyone singing it's praises is not running trueSky with multiple cloud layers with 3rd party aircraft and scenery?

In the P3D forum, Beau Hollis said that TrueSky has about the same hit with clear sky as with clouds.

No difference on my server with TrueSky on/off which is probably due to the fact that I use cloudshadows range set at High and fir now TrueSky has none..

I'm looking forward to the reports when everyone starts to load v5 down with addons. I'm interested when ActiveSky and multiple cloud layers, PMDG with native v5 installers and FSlabs for v5. Than users can report how autogen loads and how performance is at a high-end payware airport that is designed for DX12 and not some port over DX11 version. Landing at night with DL lighting, traffic, etc.

Funny how many have deleted their 4.5 install yet they try to port over 4.5 add-ons that are not ready for v5 yet. And you wonder why folks are having issues.

I hear ya, Pete. I use mine for IFR practice, and though I really haven’t had the time to mess with it yet, from what I’ve seen v5 is a game changer. And you’re talking to someone who is enthralled with how good 4.5 is. Anyone who thinks these sims are no good doesn’t remember Flight Simulator 98. We’ve come a long way, baby!

My understanding is that if “enhanced” atmosphere is unchecked, the sim reverts to the same cloud system we have always had, so third-party clouds textures should work as expected.
