Truesky - rain and snow?

Featured Replies

While the weather depiction in v5 can be varied using the useful control panel, I haven't been able to see any rain or snow when using Truesky - all I see is increasing levels of fog even when stationary.  While the legacy version provides over-done particle effects, is it possible for Truesky to render anything other than fog?

Same here. Maybe its disabled for now with truesky which is still being developed i guess?

Haven't tested snow but rain is definitely in, you can just add a rain layer and see for yourself.

Strange. I added a rain layer, but all I saw was fog. The particle effect was there for legacy but absent for Truesky. Will fiddle with more settings!

When I tried snow, it took a while after I changed the weather before it kicked in. I was about to give up on it.

The 'problem' seems to be some incompatibility between the old weather themes and Truesky. Setting 'Winter Wonderland' doesn't produce snow because it sets the cloud type to stratus. Changing the clouds to cumulus allows snow. Rain also requires a single layer of precipitation.

What worries me now is that I'm so pleased to see rain and snow - I think I need to get out more!!

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I've seen snow and rain when using FSXWX for live weather and going somewhere it currently is snowing or raining, but yeah doing it using the presets doesn't seem to work reliably.

That's correct because those themes have multiple layers with precipitation enabled... Truesky in it's current form support only one layer with precipitation enabled.

No, he's not using TrueSky.

Apart from the fact that, currently, with TrueSky enabled you can only have one precipitation layer, P3D V5 has made a change compared to every previous version: it will not show rain/snow unless you are UNDER an actual cloud depiction!

Which of course is fairly realistic, but it can be easily mistaken as a bug, since it's different than it used to be.

Exactly! Our weather radar has had cloud/rain control built in for quite some time and the majority of users thought this was a bug, albeit very realistic.
