May 7, 20206 yr Another look at a Z490 MB from Asus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JqY5HIHIOo Raymond Fry.
May 7, 20206 yr ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII Wifi6 is the motherboard I'm waiting for! I've decided to go with the i9-10990K. It's $399 and available for pre-order and will be out May 20th. Hopefully the CPU will be available for pre-order soon! All that's left for me would be the GPU, but I will use my current GTX 1080 for the time being until the 3080 releases later this year. ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

There was a rumor about a 10990x, but that hasn't turned up yet and if it ever does, it will work in a different socket. Then there's the 10900x, but that's a different chip for a different market that fits in a different socket. Don't buy this if you want to pair it with a Z490 motherboard because it won't fit.
May 7, 20206 yr Sorry, I don't know why I keep saying 10990K. I mean 10900K. Yes I'm aware of the new motherboard required. But I'm building a new machine so that shouldn't matter. May 12, 20206 yr I upgraded to a 7th generation CPU in January this year (i5 7600k), so that will have to see me through at least the next three years unless I win the Lottery!! May 13, 20206 yr This is the chip I have my eye on for my next upgrade. However, seeing one or two of the leaks doing the rounds regarding the thermal output of these has me a little concerned, I must admit. I'm gonna have to see what the tests reveal once the embargo lifts I think but if I have to spend another £160 on a 360mm AIO to keep this thing running that could be the final nail in the coffin for Intel and me. When I realised it's unlikely that these were not likely to be a little more competetively priced and that I won't get much change from £500 I paused before accepting it. Then, when I saw the cost of the Z490 boards it caused a raised eyebrow and a sting as I think they are £80 - £100 more expensive than they should be as far as I'm concerned and now I'm staring at £160 - £200 to cool the chip. Honestly, with those things this platform is over £300 more that I think it should be considering where AMD is and what it is offering. I could reluctantly swallow a chip costing £500. I could just about put up with £315 for a Rog Strix Z490-E but forcing me into a cooling solution at the £160 - £200 mark is beginning to feel too insulting to swallow. If the chip was £400- 420 and the motherboards cheaper then it wouldn't be so bad but all this combined is not sitting well with me, I must say. I know, the chip price is not confirmed and the benchmarks are not in but it's not looking great, is it? If we are honest. I have really been looking forward to this too. May 13, 20206 yr Turns out I won't get any change out of £500 because they want £530 now the pre order is available 🤣 Just couldn't help themselves, could they? 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
