@MatthewS I'm sure they made that just for you! 😉

Absolutely love the undulating runways! 😍 This makes every (generic) airport an interesting take-off/landing experience.

Thanks to Asobo for posting those screenshots 👍

Ok, I'll shut-up now about undulating runways 😁

Really?

There are no watermarks on those screenshots with the undulations. They have been taken by Asobo (not Alpha testers).

I'd say undulations (for generic airports) have only been added in the latest build, otherwise we would have seen at least one undulating runway in all the screenshots previously posted by alpha testers and Asobo.

I thought you were going to shut up about undulating runways? It seems as though you still going on about them.😜

Brilliant 🙄  Well clearly I'm "shutting up" about there being no evidence of their existence for "generic" airports, which there now is, thanks to the latest screenshots.... I'm still going to respond to "contributions" like yours and Doug. 🤣

Go ahead, that's what forums are about, nothing wrong with having your own view as long people keep it friendly as most do.

No no no!!! Trees are too undulated!!! Runways are too tall!!!

As far as I recall, there has only been one picture of giraffes. Microsoft Flight Simulator needs more ungulated animals...

May all your landings be safe ones!

To be fair, the hints they inserted in some development updates as well as that unofficial confirmation by an Alpha tester were enough evidence that they were working on undulating runways. But still, now we have actual footage of what they look like, and they look great on top of that, so it's good. I think we can all agree that this is a much better implementation of undulations compared to a competing simulator. It seems they really are serious about not implementing half-baked features into the simulator.

That's the most important part. No need to put others down just because you have to push your narrative.

That picture with the waves is beautiful.

1/ The "Best Shot Award 🥇" goes to SoapyDiamond  for the foaming sea shot : everything makes you wish you'd be there, the sky, the clouds, the light, the sea, the airport. Go and see some truSKY v5 implementation on the screenshot forum and cry.

Yes, but that picture has an obvious glitch. Or maybe more than one, if you look closely. In the lower left corner you'll see an obvious 3d mesh (?) anomaly, it basically looks like a long, wave shaped brick of water.

In addition, the runway number should be where the threshold markings are. In this case, there should be three lines to the left and right of the runway numbers each.

Also, doesn't the runway look too undulated. I hope these are only overdone just to prove some guy wrong about sloped runways, but in real life while Madeira does have sloped runways, I'm pretty sure it's not undulated to that extreme.

You are correct. Plus there are not these elevated approach light posts in front of the threshold.

OMG.

Do you realize they are working on 40,000+ airports around the world, and you're complaining about the exact details of the way a number is painted on one runway?

Now isn't this forum funny. People whine about the length of grass blades, and once someone makes a substantial and sound comment about something actually aviation related, he shall "get some perspective". No comment. But great that you finally got your undulations, even where there are none irl. Last time I checked Madeira, it didn't look that way. But before someone jumps on that, yes I am glad we have sloped runways, a feature that actual FFSs also have nowadays. Yet I wonder what their data source is. I can't comment on the other places they showed but they certainly seem to be extreme examples. More on topic, I fail to see what's so bad about pointing out the runway markings are wrong. If you had followed the Airport episode, you would know they place a ton of features according to Bing imagery. Since FNC seems to have quite decent satellite data, it's questionable why the markings are off in the first place. The feature to have the numbers right on the threshold marking was already existent in FSX.

Oh, and before I forget, I totally hope for the noticably different tire sound on the grooved runway. That's something distinct indeed. j/k.

beautiful one here, that's flight sim porn.

Indeed. Still, dontcha think those reflections on the tail and especially the stabilizer look odd, somewhat? Material wise or whatever? Still a giant leap forward, one way or another.

In general I think I start to like the runway lighting. No more huge blurs. Still awaiting some video footage, as I am still not sure if the get the rabbit right, unlike in past versions. I've pointed it out more than once I believe, and I hope so much it's right this time. Also I hope they will finally make the lights propagate through fog, which they never did in the past. Which is kind of a reason why there are lights after all...

What I don't quite like can be seen in the 4th runway shot. I've seen that in some update from a few months ago, and it still seems to be the same. Those skidmarks seem highly repetitive, although not all runways seem to look idential (luckily). Nevertheless, I hope there will be super dirty runways (dirty in the sense of rubber deposit) on the busy hubs. Also I hope they fixed the layering and finally placed the skidmarks on top of the runway markings. Can't see that in any of the shots so far.

Are they not just rising from big rain/storm clouds below ?  I aint no meteorologist but they look similar, kind of

As a meteorologist, I can say that is a cumulus cloud that has grown into a layer of cirrus or alto cumulus above.  Completely possible, realistic, and actually more common than you think.

These reflections can be rather tough to execute, considering the limits of today's techniques and the performance hit they induce. There are plenty of weird reflection errors across the board if you look at the official footage closely, but this applies to pretty much any game nowadays (and considering the draw distance of the simulator, it is a lot harder to mask these limitations in here). I think the overall result will look a lot more polished when ray-tracing is implemented.

I'm sure you are right. I don't say I'm disappointed, as I'm not. Rather quite impressed still. It's just a minor thing here. As I said, still lightyears ahead compared to what we were used to from earlier versions.

I'd love to see a short video of an aircraft landing on an undulating runway.... is that possible Asobo?
