I fly around San Francisco a lot and TE Northern California San Francisco Bay Bridges look like they were made of Leggos. The scenery looks great at 10,000 feet. But if you fly at 4 or 5000ft AGL the photoreal doesn't look real at all. I am guessing you haven't seen any of the videos made by many different testers. This is NOT photoreal -- I have seen that and never liked it. This is 3D worldwide scenery and, at least for me, is absolutely mind-blowing. Check it out.

For them it may not be an easy sell as they would have to abandon their investment in the previous sim As a simmer, I am only looking for the best sim experience. Yes I have blown a lot of money on fsx/p3d addons, (in my case, well over 8000 dollars over the yea4s) but if something comes along better, I’ll dump all that in a heartbeat. besides, I’ve been through a few p3d version changes, and after having to rebuy a lot of titles, just to get forward compatibility, I don’t really think staying on that trajectory is preserving anything.

I read it and it certainly looks inviting. But I already have two flightsims of the century for the last century, FS9 and FSX, and two flightsims of the century for this century, P3Dv4 and P3Dv5. FS9 contains all the California Classic retro 1961 airports and ai propliners. I fly the MAAM DC-3 on it. FSX is my military simulator for MAIW and I have a stable full of transports, trainers, fighter, and bombers for it. P3Dv4 has only the TrueEarth sceneries for Washington, Oregon, and Northern California. I fly only my Quest Kodiak in it. P3Dv5 contains the entire Orbx world and since I now know how to start my Kodiak in it I fly it and just a handful of other aircraft. I'm asking myself, "Do I really need another simulator?" Well, not now. Let's see how the new latest and greatest works first. What will people tell me it does that my existing four don't. Most of all will it accept my Quest Kodiak? If not then forget it. Another question is do I have to go online to fly it? I can't imagine I have enough disc space to hold everything it's reported to have scenerywise. And if it is an on-line program will there be a one-time cost or will have to subscribe to it? Noel Resistance is futile....

I have probably not seen all of the videos but I have seen some. None that show me geography I am familiar with like the San Francisco Bay Area. While I don't live there now I was born and raised in San Francisco and learned to fly in the area. I know the area intimately. Next, I am not what you would call a simmer. I fly in my simulators to recreate and remember my real life flying experiences. And I like to fly a variety of aircraft...a large variety of aircraft. So I have a stable of addons. But they all have to be easy starting. I don't want to waste my time going from panel to panel and playing both pilot and co-pilot to start the engines. Weather. I am a fair weather pilot. I have all of my scenarios and saved flights to begin at 10:00 AM in the morning on June 29th. I don't fly at night. My weather is set to 2/8 cirrus at 40,000 feet to give the sky some texture so I am not interested in moving temperature slider to watch rain turn into snow. Once the speculation over the sample videos turns to personal experiences with the simulator I will make up my mind. In any case if I get it, it will not replace what I already have, it will simply another simulator to go to go along with FS9, FSX, P3Dv4 and P3Dv5. Each is a different flying experience for me. After MSFS is released and the wow factor is over and I know what I would need to run it and how much disc space I would need and the cost I will make up my mind. Right now I am wondering how the entire world in 3D will fit on my computer; how much it will cost; if I will have to go online to play it; how much tweaking of the settings will be involved. In short I don't know if the water is warm or cold. Someone jump in ahead of me and let me know. 1 hour ago, Delta111 said: Resistance is futile.... Noel If the older sims are set up to work the way you like them to, that is great! No harm in letting the smoke clear before jumping to the new sim. I never knew about that classic scenery you mentioned in your first post. Makes me want to install FS9 again! I love older airliners from the 80's 90's and their workhorse roles they play today like 10 Tankers DC-10 fighting fires. I find myself seeking these classics out from time to time for FSX. I can't wait to see some make their way to the new sim. To ask a bunch of strangers if YOU need a game, is, well, very strange. Maybe a bit of assertive training is needed, more than needing a game! Or is it just click-bait? Robin "Onward & Upward" ... Now I'm not in the beta test, so I've not flown it, but I've seen enough videos to observe that it does appear to simulate air mass and turbulence better than either FSX, P3D, AeroFly FS2, or XPlane, and this is really what you should be asking yourself if you are interested in simulating flight, particularly in a smaller GA aeroplane as it would appear you are. Sure the visuals are a bonus, but it looks to me like the real bonus is a better depiction of flight, and this being the case, I would suggest the answer to your question is that maybe you don't need it, but you might find that you'd want it if it is doing a better job of simulating what you are attempting to simulate. Yep, this is how I feel as well. Do I need it? Of course not. Do I want it? Yes, but only if the physics offer enough of an improvement AND I can find a good sweet spot for butter smooth flying in & around the Long Island region, without it graphically looking like the FSX of old 🙂 Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons

August 1, 20205 yr You can always tell a Norwegian, but you can't tell him much. If you bought all those addons in the past with the expectation that you will go to the grave with them then you've already answered your own question. However if you understand that you've got your moneys worth and enjoyment from them in the past and you know that new things are coming in the form of Flight Simulator then I say YES, YOU NEED IT! It will be a matter of time until there is a DC-3 to enjoy in the much more active living world about to be released and you can still always go back to the others until you are ready to stand on 2 legs in the new Flight Simulator world. Thanks for the added info on your needs and wishes. Based on your comments, you are not looking for realism so much as just jumping in your (virtual) plane and flying, as in arcade games. I am just the opposite -- I want to simulate flight in as realistic a manner as possible (I have flown a real plane just once, in a Piper Cub with an instructor), and FS2020 looks like a dream come true. Like you, I am no spring chicken, and I am amazed that I have lived long enough to see this. I have seen enough videos to know that FS2020 is flexible enough to allow you to set the program to run exactly as you describe. If you want easy starting, fair weather only (sounds boring to me), and flying only in daytime, etc., you can easily do it. I will also mention that I have seen the San Francisco area in FS2020 and it looks like the real thing -- fantastic. Having said all this, if I were a betting man I would put my money on you ultimately succumbing to 2020 -- it might take a while but you will get there. In any case, happy simming or not simming -- just enjoy! Edited August 2, 20205 yr by cobalt further thoughts
