Still worried about the flight model ... how planes move

Yep the first iteration at least, and while it's been many years since I've flown in FSX (I think at least 7 or 8?) I remember it as the being the best "feeling" GA I had, bar none. But that wasn't enough to save my entire FSX experience as a whole. Once MS left, I followed suit. If I end up back with MSFS (which I have been waiting for now for at least 10 years) I would be excited at the thought if I knew I'd have your Duke in there! I asked you about much earlier in this thread (if you recall).

Ok - sorry if I forgot.

I think some worry too much about the methodology while perhaps missing the fact that it is tuning the system to be effective that is far more important.

Rob, if one has the ability to do the actual "tuning" in real time - that is in the sim - and could visualize your efforts - with visible 'arrows' showing the results, would that be a neat help or a hindrance? BTW, there is no more .air file.

This might be confusing.

The parameters that had previously been in the air file are now in config files that can be edited with a simple text editor.  Some have changed, but there's a lot there.

Sure Bill. Anything like that would be a bonus. As you know you can already instantly reload an aircraft after f/m tweaking, but what you describe would be even better.

That was what I was implying, but yes I should have been more explicit. Everything that used to be in the .air file is now in multiple, rationalized .CFG files in plain text.

I'm intrigued by this. Various editors convert hex and other code into very clear graphs that you can easily tweak in the "old" system. I'm unclear as to how this is presented only in a text file, but I'm sure I will find out by next week.

A format like:

Parameter_of_some_sort = 0:1, 20:3, 50:10;

That looks a bit awkward. A simple graph is so much easier to deal with, but oh well, new tricks to learn.

Actually quite easy with the editor I have. You can assign keys to instantly alter the slope of each graph and the overall picture is a bit clearer (at least for me) than a bunch of numbers, but that shows my limitations.

IF your editor can output the parameters from the curve in a text format, you could create or edit the curve graphically then export the numbers for the config file.

My air file editor didn't have anything useful like that, at least not that I could ever find.

I'm not too worried, as I'm confident that the clever lads at FS Developer will come to the table and create whatever tools that Asobo might not provide already.

I was gonna say. This should be a good thing for people who likes to tinker.

https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.

Any tester willing to share their opinion on whether airflow modeling on the surface of aircraft is there or are they using a souped up version of FSX's derivative equations?

FSX | DCS | X-Plane 11 | MSFS 2020 | IL2:BoX

Favorite aircraft currently: MSFS Savage Cub

A graph gives you a way to quickly visualize something, while the text format gives you the exact numbers but no "feel" for them.

Very much like the difference between analog gauges and a glass cockpit. 😄
