Still worried about the flight model ... how planes move

Or even more importantly: how well does your cfi think it simulate real flight

After playing fs98, through fsx.

I soloed at 4 hours. My cfi said it was pivotal in my basic airmanship.

I guess we don't need a perfect flight model to simulate flight at a home desk.

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

meh, I've got you both beat.

The utmost of importance is when your wife gets fooled into thinking that you're watching another real airliner video on YT when in fact you are actually flying in the new sim. So when she does a double-take and says something like..."is that you flying?"...and you feel your face getting that grin on...yea to hell with flight dynamics 🙂

My airplane uses look up tables

I've seen those in Missionary Bush Pilot's videos! 😄

Thanks for the reminder.

The first time I saw my daughter-in-law playing Red Dead Redemption I thought she was watching a movie.

In the case of airliner videos, I think the controller in your hand might give it away. 😄 Other than that, it's amazing how far we've come.  Some of those screen shots look like real life photographs.

Wow! Please do tell me it was in rural area, in non controlled field in a Cub? 🙂 Frankly for my 19 years experience  I have never seen anyone solo after 4 hours except may be a pilot with glider certificate transitioning to powered airplane!

Kinda hard to figure out what's actually going on, isn't it? 🙂

I think everyone underestimated the amount of work that would go into MSFS.  While I don't think Asobo is in over their heads yet, I have to wonder how close they are.

In any case, MSFS is amazing, and it's likely to get better as time goes on.

Unfortunately, crunch time is almost standard practise in game development industry. As a software developer I would never seek a career in that industry. The little game development I do I do out curiosity and without any time tables or external pressure.

That is good. Did it in 7h 15m myself and thought that wasn't bad, but four hours is well rapid. When it comes to sims however, I still can't get my computer desk to enter a spin.

I log quarters of hours in my log book, dunno about anyone else, just always been the way I've done it. Otherwise if you flew for 45 minutes, there'd be no log entry.

Just out of curiosity do any of you keep logs for your virtual flight time?

I have 200 hours trying to get X-Plane add ons to work.

FSX | DCS | X-Plane 11 | MSFS 2020 | IL2:BoX

Favorite aircraft currently: MSFS Savage Cub

Nope. It's bad enough having to write the real ones without doing it for toy aeroplanes too.

Thanks Chock, your a mighty helpful fellow. I don't fly for real so I may, just to see how much time I put it. Something fun to do to log where I've flown and in what aircraft ect.

Not saying it's a bad thing if people wanna log their virtual time. Could be kind of fun if you like ultra realism, especially in something like an A2A plane which simulates wear and tear. And if you do fly sims seriously and do stuff properly, you do 'fly for real', just not in an actual aeroplane.
