Is there any advantage to buying via STEAM vs. Buying the package direct?

only if you prefer the Steam platform and have other games you would like to consolidate with one storefront

Microsoft has their own application on Steam for native support https://store.steampowered.com/app/719950/Windows_Mixed_Reality_for_SteamVR/

My one question for purchasing MSFS 2020 via steam is as follows:

I purchased my copy of MSFS 2020 on steam when it was released to steam customers on July 30th.

But I paid with local sales tax around $65.00.

Is this only the middle version of MSFS2020?

If it is, will there be a small fee for upgrading to the tip top third version of the MSFS 2020 program for we steam customers?

I like steam, because if anything were to happen, you can safely  go to your account and re down load and install the program once again.

I think the only way I'll know if my version is the tip top version is to count the number of aircraft?

Becuase, if I remember correctly, there's suppose to be around forty different aircraft to chooce from in the tip top version.

I'd appreciate a correction on the number of aircraft in the tip top version if I'm wrong on my count.

Just my twocents on this topic.

See everyone at weheels up on the 18th.

Around 65$ is not a middle version, it's only a basic version (Standard). Middle version (Deluxe) is for around 90$ and top version (Deluxe Premium) around 120$. There will be possibility to upgrade to one of higher version, but it will be a little bit more expensive, than buiyng higher version directly. I think, that you can cancel the pre-order and buy again the higer version, if you want.

I have had such a bad experience with Microsoft support.

I purchased the Premium Deluxe version for $180.79 CAD.  But I was surprised that I had only 20 aircraft.  I looked in my Microsoft Store Library and it showed  Premium Deluxe but with "Manage" instead of "Launch".

So after trying for 2 days I got HUMAN support from XBOX support.  The lady refunded my original purchase and then made me re-purchase the game and helped me go through the install and UPDATES.  Fine!  I got my 30 aircraft and started flying around.

Visited Niagara Falls to check it out and I am sure it looked better in the 1990's versions.  Absolute rubbish!  So back to the Microsoft Store and my library.

So again it showed  Premium Deluxe but with "Manage" instead of "Launch"..  Clicking on Manage told me that Premium Deluxe was installed. BUT below that in the Bundle Contents showed only the Basic was installed but the other 2 had that dreaded ICON (this cannot run on your computer)!

Now that is BS!
My computer is less than a month old and it is medium powerful:
DELL XPS 8940
32GB (16x2) DDR4 2933Mhz
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) RTX 2070 SUPER(TM) 8GB GDDR6
1TB SSD + 2TB SATA

I have tried hours and hours to get some support - NOTHING!! Just endless and useless web self-help (on pages where at the bottom you see: 5 out of 62,432 found this helpful)

Thankfully I got a full refund and will now try Steam. I already have FSX and GTR2 from Steam and they have worked very well!  I hope Steam will install correctly!  Has any had a bad experience?

Yes. You can save 10 hours of your life trying to get it to work through Microsoft. Or you can just go download it at Steam and be done.

Flight Simulator's - Prepar3d V5/MSFS | Operating System - WIN 11 | Main Board - GIGABYTE X870E Aorus Elite WIFI7 | CPU - AMD 9800X3D | RAM - CORSAIR 64GB 6600Mhz | Video Card - EVGA RTX3090 FTW3 Ultra Monitor - DELL 38" Ultrawide | Case - CORSAIR 750D Full Tower | CPU Cooling - CORSAIR H170i Elite LCD 420mm Push/Pull | Power Supply - EVGA 1000 G+ | Sound System - Definitive Technology ProMonitor 600 w/subwoofer

I would do steam based on all the issues I have read here about the MS store version. Steam has been flawless for me.

7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

Of the two Steam is marginally more intrusive and evil but it is sort of like trying to decide if Josef Vissarionovich Stalin was more evil than Adolf of NSDAP fame.

I went MS because I really really dislike valve.  Personally my MS install has been flawless but other people have definitely had issues.

Steam users SO FAR have not had any major issues (though they do get updates up to an hour later) but that might or might not change. At this point in time the Steam install definitely has less issues.

Hopefully once the game eventually matures neither platform will have any issues.
