Actually, I'd kinda like an early 707 myself, without all the automation.

Program the FMC, take off, put the plane on autopilot, set it to pause at top of descent, then go to dinner and a movie.

Not only are they playing an arcade game, they're letting it play itself, and THEY'RE NOT EVEN WATCHING IT PLAY!

They've finally made a sim "for the rest of us" and I couldn't be happier.  On the Beta forum, even long time airliner-only simmers are going to GA flying.  Because it is that good.

Very well said. This is the reason that I’ll never do a 737 flight over an hour long on the sim unless there’s a really good reason to (a friend wants to do a cool new route, a VATSIM event is taking place, etc.) because it’s pointless to let your computer run and let an airplane fly itself at cruise. I also make a point of hand flying the 737 up to 10k feet and down from 10k feet, especially in IMC.

Yesterday I did an IFR flight in the C172 flying airways and a VOR approach. That to me is the most fun simming experience, and it’s only going to get better when this sim comes out and supports people who want to fly low and slow. Instead of simply holding the controls and tracking the needle, I’ll also be able to look out the plane’s window and admire the scenery.

hats why i dont like most of the GA in the sim. Glass cockpits.

I learned to fly with my Dad in a 707 making approaches in IMC with adf, vor ils or Tacan,

Yes! YES!!  I cannot stand glass cockpits!  I have never flown one in MSFS, but I'm gettin' a mite tired of that Cessna 152. 🙂   Just give me steam gauges and radial engines any day.  This modern stuff doesn't cut it.

Unfortunately, ADF is being phased out in the real world, so they aren't as numerous in MSFS as they had been in FSX/P3D.  There was one at my home airport that has been decommissioned, which saddens me as it used to be really easy to figure out where my home airport was. 🙂

Does anyone make a good 707 for P3D in case I end up going back to it?

I once flew a 707 Awacs. The pilot had two interesting moments, taking off and landing with that big dish on top, the rest of the flight was flying circles for hours. Give me a Cub anyday.

Unfortunately no

Captain Sim did a 707 back in Fs2002 that wasnt even compatible with FS2004 sadly. Every developper missed this one specially for lack of real models, I guess the last one was John Travolta's.

I remember seeing an early model 737, the Captain Sim 737-200, that might come close to being what I want.  But the 707 was the plane that ushered in the jet age in the US and I'm interested in it.

Perhaps just having a GPS as a moving map in the cockpit might be a small inconvenience so that you can still enjoy the steam gauges? Heck, if someone's only flying VFR then they just need a road map...  OK OK a sectional chart to avoid the wrath of EASA, CAA, FAA etc. not that it matters if you just take off in the sim and go where you please whilst sightseeing

It's so that when they beg to come back into the Union owing to finally losing the will to live over their current incumbent's Twittter madness, we can say: 'not until you've learned to use adverbs properly, started drinking tea, and stopped saying gotten. And the word you are looking for, is aeroplane.'' 🤣

I detest the use of 'gotten' too, which is why I find it hard to forgive myself for excusing Americans' 'misuse of our language', however...

There is evidence to suggest that use of 'gotten' in British English actually predates 'got' and certainly use of both words overlapped until the longer version fell out of use here. So Americans probably just took the more archaic word over to the New World with them. Granted, they still shouldn't have done it because it sounds so wrong to those of us who was, like, you know, so well learnt in Britannialand!😁

(And I still think Americans are more correct in saying 'lootenent' instead of 'leftenent')

I realise that Larry, but I was wondering if you would be OK with a paper map in the cockpit in addition to you using radio navigation? In the sim world a GPS will give you that "map" - you don't have to have a magenta line on it even if it cheats by placing your plane on the display..

I've never gotten used to saying it any other way. This silliness has got to stop!

As for the pronunciation of "lieutenant" note the "lieu" is correctly pronunced "loo," and "tenant" is not pronounced "landlord!" :)

I'll never understand where the heck the "f" came from! LOL! 😅

I would be okay with a sectional, but looking at a sectional within a 3D sim world is really impractical.

One (of so many) theories is that some French spellings would use a 'v' instead of a 'u' and that was misinterpreted as being pronounced with an 'f' sound by those in Britain. Another idea I have though, is that the love/hate relationship England (more than the UK as a whole) has had with France was probably going through a 'hate' phase and it was decided to pronounce it differently' just because'!

That could also then explain why America didn't change it when UK?USA relations weren't so great.😉

But got/gotten? When you hear something said other than the way you are used to (and were taught), it can just grate - a bit like staunch supporters of different flight sims at the moment it seems!😆

Do I detect evidence of VR?  There must be some way to display something from a browser in the 3D world.  At worst, alt-tab out to your browser to check the charts.
