In fact, since the word irritates me anyway, was curious about that years ago and looked up its etymology; there are apparently several instances of gotten having been in use long before 1776, in European literature, so it is by no means a neologism and nor can we blame the Yanks for it either. But even if its origins were a result of an 'Americanism', it's worth noting that many of these have made it into common use in English long ago enough for people who get bothered by that kind of thing to perhaps not realise many pretty useful words were never traditional English words and that they can actually thank Americans for them. A good example of this would be 'accessibility', which is a result of a fairly common American linguistic practice, whereby an extant word is further extended by combining another word to create a new word (accessible and ability). Which is actually quite a useful descriptive word. Technically, that would make it a portmanteau; brunch, sharknado or metrosexual. Ironically however, doing this might not be as 'American' as some might think: Lewis Carroll for example - who was about as English as you can get - not only made up portmanteaus all the time in his literary works, he actually coined the use of the word portmanteau (French for suitcase) to describe the practice: Humpty Dumpty explains it to Alice (in Through the Looking Glass): 'It's like a portmanteau - there are two meanings packed up into one.' Incidentally, in case anyone thinks this is getting off the topic, Microsoft's name is a portmanteau, combining Microcomputer and Software. 🙂 Edited August 15, 20205 yr by Chock Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

But the 707 was the plane that ushered in the jet age in the US and I'm interested in it. Hook Milviz has a nice 737-200 combi that will most likely be coming to the show. https://milviz.com/flight/products/B732C/index.php When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
August 16, 20205 yr Reading through the 8 pages didn't blow my skirt up, so my money is on every developer than has the ability to crank out anything that will taxi, fly, do tricks, or maybe just sit there and look pretty. No developer in their right mind would not hesitate to join this parade. Special emphasis is on what is not included in the Osobo 30. No military anything, no flying boats, nothing big with propellers, no whirlybirds, no gliders. I guess those guys that gave us the free aircraft carriers with all those super nifty features will get to do it all over again. Any guess at who will have the first freeware? I personally would like to see the A2A gang blow the doors off the barn and add a pot full of "never seen before in flight sims" features. Regards, Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
August 16, 20205 yr One early feature that might be a rude awakening to the ho-hum, just ride along, developers of old, is that the default aircraft have in fact set the bar quite high with their ability to deliver quality Garmin products with some bite in them and enough depth to show what is possible in this new sim. The G3000 and G5000 Fusion integrated panels are a lot more than your eye candy of old. Even their G1000 that shows up in half the planes has synthetic vision as standard fare in several. The Citation Longitude not only has the three 14 inch next-gen panels (those that are 7x faster than previous, and 4k resolution) but, has 4 touch control boxes within easy reach, although they are controlled by mouse clicks instead of fingertips. Because this high-end Garmin works is now the default, these 3rd party guys are going to have to reinvent their offerings if they want our extra money. I'm thinking the HondaJet Elite, the Phenom 300E w/Prodigy Touch, the Quest Kodiak with the G1000 NXi, and the Citation CJ3+ Fusion would all be possible and probable. The newest Cirrus Vison Jet G2 might be the first one out the gate. It is amazing how similar all the new panels look. This is the future looking at us. After flying the King Air 350i and Longitude with the Fusion panels and touchscreen controllers, the CJ4's Pro Line 21 already looks dated. When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

At worst, alt-tab out to your browser to check the charts. Hook I mean I’m sure there’s a way (and it probably becomes more practical with VR, but it’s likely much more difficult than having a physical sectional out in front of you.
August 16, 20205 yr Disclaimer: I own many Carenado planes. The question really is: how are Carenado going to step up, so to speak? Until MSFS 2020 came along, their business model was: MS/P3D default gauges and flight model + visual upgrade > MS/P3D default planes That's not going to work anymore. Their immediate advantage is that A2A, Milviz, Eaglesoft are slow as molasses in releasing GA aircraft.

Then I found out how they fly. Program the FMC, take off, put the plane on autopilot, set it to pause at top of descent, then go to dinner and a movie. Not only are they playing an arcade game, they're letting it play itself, and THEY'RE NOT EVEN WATCHING IT PLAY! And every week someone would ask, "If I can fly the 737 NGX, can I fly the real plane?" There were far too many "yes" answers. Now, unlike the other poster, I did not post "Enough airliners!" Typical GA fliers don't mind sharing the sim with airline pilots. The reverse is not necessarily true. They've finally made a sim "for the rest of us" and I couldn't be happier. On the Beta forum, even long time airliner-only simmers are going to GA flying. Because it is that good. Hook I'm a bit of a strange case: after 15 years or so of only really being interested in military flight sims (blinks back tears in memory of F-117, EF2000 and the Jane's titles) I went to civvie flight sims as a bush pilot in the Holger Sandmann Alaska sceneries in FS9. After about ten years of that, (and moving to ORBX/fsx) I kinda got tired of it, wasn't really much of a challenge to plunk a supercub or a Beaver down on a sandbar in FSX after you've done it a thousand times, so I went airliner flying just for a different challenge. hoping the new potential in the flight modelling and weather will let me enjoy both things, and I can head back to Alaska again. (Really need a floatplane Beaver though) But yeah, the long haul realism police (NO TIME COMPRESSION!!! Sleep Through your Flight Instead!) still makes me shake my head, even though PMDG made great steps in implementing TC modes in the recent 747/777. I have grown to love the process of putting together an airliner flight tho.

I mean, we use it because we call something else football, but the word was invented and used far and wide in the UK before y'all decided that it was just an American thing, and therefore should be ridiculed.

As for the pronunciation of "lieutenant" note the "lieu" is correctly pronunced "loo," and "tenant" is not pronounced "landlord!" 🙂 I'll never understand where the heck the "f" came from! LOL! 😅 Lieutenant is an old French word meaning in lieu of. In lieu of a commander . Neither the Americans nor the Brits pronounce it correctly because English doesn’t have the sound « eu » except approximatively in the « uh » of « uh-oh ». If my memory serves me well the Americans picked up the approximate French pronunciation during the Revolutionary War from the French contingent.
