Has anyone tried off-line mode?

wasn't saying it made one sim better than the other.. was just saying you can have live traffic and night lighting on top of orthos.. getting the facts right..

I would assume it’s not a cast-in-stone number. It would depend on how far, and how fast you are flying - in other words, how much new scenery has to be loaded. If you spent an hour doing circuits around your local airfield, there may be very little new data that would have to be streamed if you stay in the same general area.

If you flew 300 miles in one of the jets over the course of an hour, it probably would consume a lot more.

The cache is FIFO* and is limited to however much space you allocate for it. Once 'full' it will simply overwrite from the beginning of the cache space.

You also have the option to "permanently" archive specific scenery for future use. One decent example of this would be the scenery around your personal choice of a "home airport".

*NB: First In First Out

This is how it works in the tested version AFAIK.

Useless for me if carried over to the release. What people with low and unreliable bandwidth want is to be able to download a route or a region during the nigh without actually flying it and then do later the flying from the cache. And build up a library of savings.

Useless and absurd. You need to fly a region to save it when you save it because you can't reasonably fly it ? I miss something here 😏.

If FS20 doesn't do that, I will wait to get a better connection to move to it.

You can choose Low, Medium or High Quality Data to download before you fly. If you want to download the entire world it's 2000 terabytes!

You beat me to this topic. As excited as I am for the new sim I am (I must admit) not a fan of photo-scenery

This is a literally a photo-scenery based sim. If you fly it, you're going to have to get used to the problems with this scenery type. Offline mode is not a feature, it's something to use if you just can't get an internet connection.

I'm interested (but not dismissive) of the fact you dislike photoscenery so much, as that is the only thing I am willing to fly over, and this has been the case for many years!

Does the 2000Tb all have to be on C drive?

I suppose that flying from Port Moresby to Madan  or Juneau to Skagway is a couple of MB only   😁

Ni idea, would be nice if this stuff could have it's own location.

Thank you for posting this info.  This must be in the release version as I didnt see this option in Beta or I didnt know how to do it.  Not any documentation that I saw.

Absolutely not.
Helpfully, MSFS allows you to stipulate where you want the cache to reside.
