Would you just have to manually decide to re-load the cached area on the fly if you wanted to see if it had been updated? I presume there'd be no way for the sim to tell if your data was out of date without doing it that way. August 15, 20205 yr You beat me to this topic. As excited as I am for the new sim I am (I must admit) not a fan of photo-scenery and I'm hoping against hope that this Offiline Mode means no photo-scenery? (I'm not fussed about live weather, live traffic etc) I look forward to YTs after Aug 18 and will request uploaders to show footage in Offline Mode 🙂 The photogrammetry is fine from FL390 in a tubeliner but most of my flying is 100-500 ft backcountry stuff and up close the photographic stuff isn't fun.

Trust me, it will be more fun than in offline mode. Also keep in mind that less than 1% of the world is covered in photogrammetry by bing. Stop worrying! The only difference I could tell flying offline was the amount of detail. You might not be able to tell the difference. There was ground texture, vegetation, buildings, everything you'd expect to see online. Hook Edited August 15, 20205 yr by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! Most certainly true, but there are those that may have low or poor internet service and will require off-line mode more than likely. Its just that I cant help it, Ive just never taken to photogrammetry. My eyes are drawn to the downsides, like the flat 2D traffic on freeways & buildings sitting on top of flat photo of them etc. Not just in MSFS but in all sims, I avoided Ortho stuff in XP and photo sceneries in FSX. I cannot shake the impression that its a 2D photo draped onto the land with autogen sitting on top as much as I try! I know theres nothing I can do, I'll have to get used to it if I want this sim. I notice these things because I do low level stuff. Hopefully out in the countryside it won't be too bad 🙂 Edited August 15, 20205 yr by ThrottleUp
August 15, 20205 yr I do low level stuff, too! When I was flying offline, I was at about 2000 feet in the Cessna 152. Everything looked normal, and if it had just been a texture projected on a mesh, I would have gone nuts! Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 15, 20205 yr I personally love the photo scenery around everywhere. It makes the scenery look more realistic and what the auto gen placed directly on top of where it should be, it makes the scene amazing. I have always flown with photo scenery in X-Plane and one of the biggest drawbacks was no lights and no weathering. This simulator seems to take care of both of those problems along with the great photo scenery and great placement of the auto gen. Just look at Saba. Without the photo scenery Cliffs around it, that would look pretty plain. i9 11900K @ 5.3 RTX 3070TI 8GB 32 GB RAM @ 4200 GHZ 1 TB SSD 1080p G-Sync 27" Monitor

I couldn't imagine going back to generic textures. When you get to around 200 feet, procedural grass will cover a lot. Edited August 15, 20205 yr by bonchie

Well in xplane you can add road overlays on top of orthos and you get beautiful night lighting with moving cars on top of photo real ground textures. That option has always been there in Ortho4xp tool. Vinod Kumar i9 10900K 5.3 Ghz, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM, Win 11. Alpha-Yoke, Bravo-Throttles, TM Joystick, TM-Rudder, 48" 4K TV.
