So many of the default airports have been made by orbx. Interesting if orbx made the default and then sells an upgrade for the same airports. In the latest Rock Paper Shotgun interview Neumann said that the most complex airports were made by Asobo, so it could be that the default LOWI isn‘t Orbx‘s work. They talk about airports at 10:06 i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

Most of the ground equipment seems rather static in the video. The question is, how do the MSFS systems for ground support and also the AI / live traffic tie in to these addon airports?

Hook Jörg Neumann just admitted it. They outsourced the manual editing of all the airports of the world to get the basic layout correct to two companies. One of which was ORBX because they already have a dedicated team with experience in manually editing loads of airports within their regional packages.

August 16, 20205 yr <Software engineer and 3D artist> : No way in the world that third party developers could be ready to make addons before months maybe years. Crappy SDK, useless WASM environment, etc. <OrbX> : Hold my beer ! 🤣 Edited August 16, 20205 yr by Dominique_K Dominique Simming since 1981 - [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam
August 16, 20205 yr I can see architects having a field day with this sim since the SDK will be available.
August 16, 20205 yr Visually looks very impressive but a slight gripe with it and that’s the static vehicles/aircraft... We’ve got a next generation sim from Asobo that have shown huge ambition making this platform, I just don’t want to see the third party community looking for a quick profit. I want to see the same innovation that Asobo have shown, make these airports next level good.

Exactly and I think what else is going here we’re looking at it an we’re blown away but let’s be honest those lovely panned shots showing off the lighting etc, how much is what we’re enjoying in that video is because of the simulator. I just think we need to raise our expectations and not accept the old norm anymore.
August 16, 20205 yr The problem I'm having with a lot of these addon airports (not just for MSFS, but also back in FSX/P3D times) is that they often seem to be obsessed with irrelevant details in my view. Sure, it's impressive, and it looks fantastic, but I don't really have to read the timetable at the bus stop or every street sign in the parking lot. I would be more impressed if they went for a reasonable level of detail at a reasonable price (I find most of the handcrafted airports that come with MSFS totally adequate visually) and use some of the new systems that MSFS provides, like the living and moving ground environment.
August 16, 20205 yr ORBX I want real life. I want it to move, !! Edited August 16, 20205 yr by Accolade
August 16, 20205 yr I'd assume the ground services (fuel trucks, baggage handlers, ground crew etc.) would barely register on the resource usage due to the simplistic nature of what they do in the sim so I expect it won't be long till further animations/movements are implemented, would seem a fairly easy fix.
