Lowered Expectations...

If you need to rekindle your enthusiasm for MSFS, just pop in default P3D V5 and execute a few circuits...that should help you recoup your enthusiasm pretty quickly

You're not a P3D v5 fan, are you? I'll be flying MSFS a bit later today. But I'm also still buying addons and building scenery for Prepar3d v5.

Do you actually fly Prepar3d v5, or is this just something you read on the internet?

What is this glass half empty/ half full nonsense - personally, my glass is always full to the brim, indeed my cup runneth over. With no pesky 8 Hours bottle to throttle restriction in the sim. 🍻

No need to teach me to lower my expectations. I've been in the alpha for half a year and I know I'll enjoy it 🙂, despite a number of issues most of which will be solved over time.

Kind regards, Michael

I suggest you totally avoid MSFS, even screen shots and videos, if you have any intention of continuing to fly an older sim.  Any older sim. No matter how many add-ons you've accumulated.

I may do some flying in P3Dv4.5, if only to fly certain aircraft that won't exist in MSFS any time soon, if ever, but it's gonna be painful.  Real painful.  But at least I'll have the gorgeous Active Sky Cloud Art which should ameliorate the pain of giving up the gorgeous MSFS scenery.

Enhanced Atmospherics?  Still in beta.  Two layers of clouds.  No real integration with Active Sky so you can't be flying in clear skies and see a thunderstorm in the distance.  The very real possibility of VRAM OOMs.  I don't need that grief.  At least you can turn it off.

Glass half empty / half full?  Schroedinger's Glass, both half empty and half full at the same time, depending on how it is observed.

Besides, if the glass is half full, then you have too much glass.  It's over-engineered for the job.

No, I'll definitely be flying MSFS a bit later today. No chance I'll be avoiding it.

EA is pretty cool, that's what you get for your $60 (you mistyped the price earlier), Truesky doesn't do dramatic skies as well as MSFS but how well does MSFS do VR flights through clouds? They actually both look pretty great for most "normal" weather conditions. Feel free to use ASCA if 2D sprites are your thing, but it's the future now you don't have to look at the 1980s tech if you don't want to.

"if only to fly certain aircraft that won't exist in MSFS any time soon" - sure, I'm guessing those "certain aircraft" are "airliners with systems that function properly"? 🙂

VRAM OOMs was just Avsim fake news, if you're flying after HF1 and not using a potato as a GPU.

Anyway, should be flying my sim, but instead I'm checking whether MSFS has downloaded yet, posting here and looking at second-hand Cessnas on the internet...

I gladly pay the extra $140 to remove a watermark. 🙂

If you're expecting VR on release day, you may be disappointed.

That's actually funny, but I don't fly jet airliners.  Except to try to land a 747 at Meigs or fly inverted under the Golden Gate Bridge.  Probably better to have "systems lite" versions of the 747 for those kinds of activities. 😄

My dream sim aircraft would be an A2A DC-3 with Captain of the Ship.  I expect we'll see severe glaciation in Hades before I'll see one of those.

Wait, what?  Have downloads already started, or are you waiting for a time to start it?  Is the date wrong on my computer? 😄

It’s crazy to me to see just how big of a cult like attitude most people on this board are taking. If you dare criticize or hint at the idea this sim is going to be anything other than the greatest piece of software ever written, you’re assumed to be some type of terrorist.

Y’all are a bunch of children.

From what I've seen and read testers report that they are just having fun - it won't get any better than that.

All of my expectations have already been met and I haven't even flown it yet.

Cheers

'tis true. If you plan to say anything negative about MSFS here, you need to have a thick skin!

I find that at least a few poster lose their word not allowed if you say anything that could be perceived as negative depite the fact I always try to choose my words carefully and make it clear I'm a paid-up member of the MSFS fan club.

We'll see how things are around here tomorrow. Will probably be even more feisty!

There are definitely going to be lots of problems in the short term after release, but compared to other simulators which needed hundreds if not thousands in 3PD purchases to be comparable to the current state of things we have an incredible starting point for a long term simulator to be honed into what will be the most realistic option we have for the foreseeable future. No project this large is even close to perfect on release. Yet it still looks very promising nevertheless... I think the dichotomy of people claiming it will be impeccable immediately and people missing the forest for the trees (literally to some extent) ends up creating a feedback loop that just foments unnecessary negativity that doesn't help with anything... (respectful debate and disagreement being the exception).

After HF1.  With a 2070rtx. (Not a 2080, but not a potato) and in the frigging default Robinson helo. LatinVFR Miami.  Got it to run after I trashed a bunch of settings back to medium, but my rig otherwise is smooth with all settings full right.  (And in 1080 not 4K). So... maybe not as bad as it was, but not fake news.

'tis OK, that was far from a serious post that you are quoting - I was just joking around. Most are pretty happy with VRAM in the modern HF2 era, but that's a different topic for a different forum.

Gotta love it when someone new comes in and criticizes a forum for its behavior. 😄

Not that there isn't anything to criticize, mind you, it's just funny when it happens. "Um... you think *this* is bad, you ain't seen nuthin' yet."
