August 16, 20205 yr I don’t believe it was ever claimed that the physics were based on the model. Nor would that even be particularly useful, unless you were an aircraft manufacturer, and they have way more sophisticated CFD software for that anyway.

August 16, 20205 yr The .air file is for the legacy flight model. Anyone that has flown the beta and thinks it's FSX's flight model is moron, and I mean that in the sense that 1) it's much more fluid (i.e. like XP11) but 2) also has more bugs than FSX. It's not the same.
August 16, 20205 yr LOL wouldn't that cause a bit of an uproar. LOL!! No Flight Sim designer would ever be that stupid. They all know that as soon as folks fly over their house and go "WoW!! that looks just like my house in Bing" the next stop is tear into the files and start getting them tweaked.🤣 Sam Prepar3D V5.3/[email protected]/EVGA 3080 TI/1000W PSU/Windows 10/40" 4K Samsung@3840x2160/ASP3D/ASCA/ORBX/ ChasePlane/General Aviation/Honeycomb Alpha+Bravo/MFG Rudder Pedals/

He came in and starting slagging off the A2A Cessna 172 as being totally unrealistic and totally useless for training. This notwithstanding the fact that A2A sells a professional version of this aircraft specifically for training in flight schools. Dudley tried to educate him a bit about how the sim was used and it's possible limitations, and this Incredible Intellect posts a link to Machado's site to prove himself right. Dudley invites him to copy the entire exchange to Machado and relay his response back... as Dudley knows Rod. But this guy is an expert. After all, he flies XPlane. He may claim additional credentials as well, but he's arguing with the guy who probably taught Orville and Wilbur how to fly. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 16, 20205 yr Author 30 minutes ago, virtuali said: MSFS 2020 supports two Flight Models, the new one, and the one from FSX. You can even choose which one to use from the settings. By default, an airplane made for MSFS 2020 doesn't come with any .AIR files and, in fact, none of the airplanes included come with an .AIR file. The flight model parameters are in a new file called flight_model.cfg and per SDK documentation, an .AIR file is optional and it's considered to be obsolete. I guess that, if you place an .AIR file in the airplane main folder, the sim will automatically switch to the "Legacy" FSX Flight Model for that plane, regardless of your preferences, which makes sense for developers wanting to port an airplane that would fly in the new sim exactly as it did in FSX. And that mislead that tester to assume the "flight model it's the same", because of that test he made without knowing all the facts. And this guys, is exactly how Urban Legends are born. Thanks. I will forward this to the Beta Tester who made the claim. Seems it was a worthwhile question. Responses appreciated. I went from P3d / A2A C172 over to X-Plane + REP so I could practice all the ACS Maneuvers including stalls. The improvement was dramatic. Very demanding but realistic. Very good transfer of learning to the real aircraft. Why this is important? I am preparing a sim based flight training program for the local chapter of Women In Aviation International. The program is directed to high school kids and hopes to inspire future pilots. So realistic flight behaviour is key. I know what is possible with X-Plane. So my expectation with FS2020 is at least the same level. We have a number of airline pilots and CFI's ready to volunteer time for these kids. A global air charter company based here has donated air conditioned office space big enough for several sim stations. Those students with financial resources will have a flight school just downstairs. Some of the kids will not be able to afford real world lessons. But if years later when time and money and family permits, they will remember the experience and maybe decide to learn to fly. Our first program is being delayed due to COVID-19, but it will have 3 days. -1- Online Ground School -2- One on One sim flight syllabus -3- Real world flight in a C172. All about paying it forward. Thanks again.
August 16, 20205 yr Moderator Friends, enough of the cynicism already, the new sim will be available in a matter of hours and then we can all make our own assessments.
