KMIA: FS2020 vs XP+Ortho vs XP

Well, we have some catching up to do I guess.

Hi, I still find the XP11 runways more authentic and more 'blended' in their surroundings.

It is just artwork but this might be an illustration of the FS2020 art direction and how gaming/simming might influence this direction.

Nevertheless, there are still these 2 outstanding bug/annoyances in FS2020 (since FS9) on my system at least:

  • There is always a small stutter on final at some distance to the runway, as if it loads something when you read a certain distance to the airport. This is frequent, as if the engine didn't preload everything necessary early on.
  • There is also always a small stutter the first time new "speech" sound is about to play, or, if it hasn't played for a while. It is has if it is halting a fraction of a second because it has to load the TTS engine and prepare it for 'speaking'.

PS: I've reported these during FSX beta back then already but I find it amazing to see the same issues in FS2020.

Average rating for X-Plane: 9/10

Average rating for MSFS: 6/10

😂😂

And yes - it is hard to fly an aircraft. Not many people can do it.

It may be easier to fly some sort of flight-game...

Its only being a few days, lets see how it plays in a few weeks after the gloss has lost its sheen, than after a few months, see whos still playing . We all love new shiny things...

And yes, that is what spending more on marketing than developing the product results in.

No...that's the excuse from a guy who tried to use one set of metrics that don't tell the whole story.

@FlyBaby pick a sim and fly it.  Why are you constantly in here??

I did 2 flights today with MSFS and was not impressed at all, the weather looks better of course but the blurry mess in MSFS vs the crisp ortho zl17 with simheaven x europe 5 is a lot better. Stutters, weird ai traffic, flight model etc. nah its not a winner for now.

I agree. at least this is how I feel now.

Stop trying to police the boards...

I am here...in thread about comparing MSFS to XP11...deal with it.

Ok.  Keep trolling.

well it's simple as this , MFS downloads Ortho stuff realtime and trying to get the same Z17 (as most use in XP) will never happen unless there is some tech that will compress the data and imagine the storage needed on one's system.

Otoh Ortho4xp gives you the levarage of a much higher zoom but guess what it would eat up all your storage if doing a huge area.

About the the clarity, if one is using Bing source from Ortho4xp then its the same word not allowed one is looking at not counting the objects of MFS.   Ya i know MFS users will scream and say it looks better , thats just due to the lighting and maybe some post processing filter or something that mfs would be using.

Ortho4xp Z17 should be around 8-12gb depending on the lat long as some tiles are larger,  my guess is MFS is streaming those orthos at a very low resolution , something like what Aerofly is doing.

But i can't even comment unless i can try MFS and this piece of word not allowed is trying to install since last two days and keeps either freezing or CTD'ing during an install and then restarts the download all over again.

Let me be honest, XP with orthos does look stunning if the area coverage is good , i have South Africa / India ,and most areas have no buildings but the coverage is good so it don't matter, only my home area which +18 +72 is really bad in Bing or Arc , yes it could do with better lighthing.

So overall comparing Bing with Bing is useless and will start derailing the thread as usual.

Should i order popcorn ?

Well, the discussion is really moot. It has been going like this for the last year+:

MSFS fan: The graphics and the weather in MSFS are superior!!

X-Plane fan: I know. But there are also other things important in a flight simulator.

MSFS fan: But the graphics and the weather in MSFS are superior!

X-Plane fan: I know! But what about a replay function? Particle effects? System modeling?

MSFS fan: Yes, but the graphics and the weather are so much better in MSFS!

X-Plane fan: Sure! But what about accurate, worldwide airports with realistic ground markings? Service vehicles that stay off the runways? Tooltips that can be disabled?

MSFS fan: Well, the graphics and the weather are much better in MSFS!!

@GoranM @Janov

I don't know why you guys are wasting your energy trying to deal with trolls. Leave them to it. They should be enjoying their sim, but obviously it's not enjoyable enough to keep them from trolling X-Plane forums. Dare you offer any criticism of the sim (no matter how well thought out), and you'll be instantly put down and bashed by the gang mentality that seems to be building.

I've seen some pretty bad threads spawning up about X-Plane (and P3D) in the MFS forum (as well as on X-Plane.org). The entire "my sim vs your sim" is extremely childish that it makes me cringe seeing people get so worked up and emotional over it, especially people you'd consider more seasoned in this world 🙂. I'd say "Grow up", but I fear it's probably the kids who are better behaved 🤪

I personally hope the X-Plane community doesn't change. It's had somewhat a reputation of being "toxic", but this is nothing compared to what I've seen over the past few days. For many people, the simulator is more than just the "simulator", but it's also the community behind it that keeps it attractive... I'd hate to see that lost

Either way, moving forward, let's please just keep this forum about X-Plane. If people wish to troll, then I'd suggest they take it elsewhere as it simply won't be tolerated.
