You can quit downloading at any point and restart if it's hung it will resume download and not make you  do it again.

When you initially purchased, did you install the setup files? I recall I installed about 210MB of files after I had purchased the product during July. Also, is your Windows version up to date?

I'm into my tenth hour of downloading and don't even have 2 GB of files - I've given up after 4 hours of troubleshooting and considering a credit card chargeback until MS sort this mess out. Unimpressed doesn't even begin to explain how annoyed and disapointed I am.

Initially I had issues on the install/download until I ran the installer as an admin and after that it was all up and running great in about 80-90 mins.

This not shown in the game requirements, and nothing prompted me for it in the Ms Store. I finally got past the "Press any key to start", and I'm now downloading a (95.15 GB) file to complete my install.

The Fix for me, Xbox Beta app (PC) has to be installed!

So much for positive thoughts...

I was at about 95% download when up popped Ms error, "FlightSimulator.exe has stopped working", blah, blah. I fire it back up, and could see no signs of a download resume, I let ti stay on FS page for 20 minutes, nothing, all I could do is move around the cursor. Did a cold boot, launched FS, 10 minutes later the page changed, showed there was an update, another 10 minutes with no changes, finally a blue progress line appeared at the bottom and finished. I started to look graphic settings, just looking around, made NO changes, and bang, same Ms error, the FSexe has crashed, close program and at my desktop. FS won't stay running for than 5 minutes and it crashes. I can't see how all this got past months of beta testing, and no one had any of these install and run problems.

Update, after FS loading and crashing several times, it then decided to start updating again, and picked up where in crashed with 5 GB left to  go, started out at decent speed, then went to nothing. I let it set there for 20 minutes with zero progress, had to kill it via task manager. Launched FS again, it did not try to resume its unfinished update.

1. No matter what aircraft or airport is entered in "World", you can click on the "Fly" button all day or hit enter, and nothing happens.

2. For the first time (no crashes) I tried to exit FS, and it crashed with the usual  FS.exe stopped...

I've now been messing around with FS for (12) hours try to get it to install, launch, update, and start a flight.

I have the same issue as many, it hangs on the "Press any key to Start"

I had this problem 🤬

I needed to update Windows 10 to version 2004 (i.e. the latest update). 👈👈👈

After that update everything was fine, and FS2020 didn't hang on the "Press any key to start" prompt 🎉

Then took about 8 hours to download the 150+ GB of content.

edit: Btw the Windows event viewer was showing FS2020 was faulting on a particular system DLL (can't remember what one it was) but I guess the 2004 update brought that DLL up to date and fixed this issue.

Unrelated, but if anyone is still struggling with download speeds, type the following command into command prompt (RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR) and then afterward, restart your PC and resume the download:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Sped my download rate up from 5-10 MB/s in task manager to a steady 50-80 MB/s!

I had no issues with the download, but the game crashes to desktop everytime I try to run it. It looks for updates for a minute or two, then just closes.

I deleted everything, did the download agoain and still have the same issues. I then spent hours trying all the possible fixes I could see online.

I will have to wait for Microsoft to fix the issue. I can see online that it am far from alone with this problem.

I decided yesterday to do a complete new Windows install, as although my machine is a decent spec, it has been slowing down a bit recently.

After a succesful Windows reinstall I decised Microsoft have had 2 days to work on things, so it may be worth downloading FS2020 overnight onto  what is effectively now a brand new PC.

I woke up today, and everything is downloaded and working.

In August 2020, installed MSFS 2020 game after 12 hr download of about 170 GB through a cable modem at 55 Mb/s.  Game ran fine.  Did a Microsoft backup in early 2021.  When ran MSFS 2020 again in late May 2021, it went to Microsoft store and started a download of 85.33 GB into same unchanged disk drive.  47 hours later, it was up to 85.03 GB and decompressing a file.  Stayed that way for 16 hours yesterday.  Finally searched using a different computer with Google for a solution and found this discussion.  Tried to download the Xbox Beta app but that failed.  Shut down and restarted.  Succeeded in installing the Xbox Beta app.

Went to restart MSFS 2020 and it did the startup splash screen, was black for 30 seconds, then went to download of updates.  Needed more than the 35.19 GB that is empty on the hard disk.  Trying to move off some stuff now (taking an hour or more to move a few GB).  Machine is a B450 MB and a Ryzen 5 CPU doing 3.6 GHz on Win 10 in an SSD, no background programs running, not even an anti-virus.  Cannot understand why it is so slow.  Did check if there was a Bot or a virus infection, none detected with two different scanners.

Some others here are having delays and long downloads and failures, but mine seem excessive.  I am beginning to question my spending $122 on the Deluxe version.  I have 35 years experience with flight sims, mostly from Microsoft, and 58 years computer experience, was a CAD teacher.  I seem to be lacking in knowledge of what to do next.  Anyone?

"You can quit downloading at any point and restart if it's hung it will resume download and not make you  do it again."

Not true.  My previous attempts seem to disappear entirely through some unknown process or processes.  I have so far devoted at least 65 hours to downloads and am now starting on the 3rd try.

There is an MSFS Discord channel where you can ask for help.  Check there and usually people are nice and willing to help you.

For some people, if the file has already been downloaded, but the decompressing is stuck, they manually unzip the file that was being decompressed and after it is unzipped, they continue with the update.  You can search for some threads where people have done it (FYI, I have not had to manually unzip stuck files myself because the update has always worked for me).

***New information:  About 7 hours ago the install began again from the beginning with fresh Internet downloads.  This was because the original destination hard disk was claimed to have insufficient space available.  So a different one was forced into the fray.  This is an SSD of 931 GB.  The download over Internet began at a rate of about 50 Mb/s.  After an hour, I believe 22 GB of the 85.33 GB had been downloaded and decompressed and perhaps installed (I am not sure how to judge how much is "installed" successfully in the midst of the process.)  About a little less than 5 hours after beginning, a check showed all 85.33 GB had been done.  Perhaps that was installed.  I have not yet tried anything further in this attempt.

Thanks for all suggestions.
