Why I will never purchase from SimMarket again

Featured Replies

Both the HiFi website and Flight1's site say the ASv6 price is $37.99. I was charged $42.25 by SimMarket. I don't care if you agree with the argument or not, but consider how the different stores handle transaction issues and where you might be inclined to purchase from next time...------------------------------------------------------------------Date opened: 10/26/2006Trouble Ticket ID:Order ID:Date: 10/26/2006Status: OpenCategory: Billing EnquiryThe published price on the product is $37.99 USD. Please understand that there is nothing we can do for you and that we will not reply further more regarding the same incorrect inquiry.best regards --------------------------------------------------------Date: 10/26/2006Status: ReopenedCategory: Billing EnquiryI purchased a shareware aircraft from Flight1 last year. After installing it and trying it out I was not happy with the quality and so I asked for a refund. They happily refunded my order. It is not something I do often, but every now and then there is a reason. You are saying that you will not even credit a $4.26 billing error and a refund is not permitted? If I had purchased this product from Flight1 they would have correctly charged me $37.99.I know where I will do my business from now on and to anyone else that reads this thread.Good day.Jason

Hi Jason,I don't get it: you ordered a product at simMarket, got charged the amount stated, which got translated into the daily exchange rate, and then you discovered that the exchange rate makes it more expensive than the price charged someplace else. And you want "revenge" against simMarket for that? What exactly is the billing error you keep talking about? Hmmm....My suggestion next time you shop in a foreign currency: use a currency converter like http://www.xe.com/Cheers, Holger

Your prerogative, Jason. Almost any retail business - world-wide - is based upon - in law - Caveat Emptor. You have the responsibility for checking out what you buy, how much you are going to pay, how it will be delivered, how much that delivery will cost, how long it will take and what warranty/guarantee exists. If you find that, later, another vendor has the same product at a lesser price, it's tough, but you need to deflect your anger over the issue - at yourself - not at the first vendor. He has delivered what he promised, and he has absolutely no obligation to meet someone else's price - particulary a price which is subject to the vagaries of foreign exchange rates.Put it down to experience, fire up your new ASv6 and the Sim and go and burn some holes in the sky. Best Wishes

There is a price listed on the author's website and a link to "their" store (they have some kind of price negotiation between the store and the author and who get's what cut). That's not my issue to figure out. The price I was told I would pay on the product website is not what I was charged.A product I purchased in 2005 from SimMarket had a clear USD price as I checked-out.A product I purchased in 2004 from SimMarket had a clear USD price as I checked-out.This time I did not notice and I wasn't thinking that I should have to worry about it (in retrospect I saw that they did NOT publish the usd price this time). The price was clearly marked on the author's site and the linked-to store is working on behalf of the seller.Jason

The SimMarket site clearly states that "All sales based on Euro. Other currencies shown as reference only!" and its Active Sky page shows the price now as $41.64 (33 Euros) in two different places on the Active Sky page. Its Conditions of Use also state:"Base and binding currency is the EURO (

ALL prices at Simmarket are in Euros. It gets converted to the exchange rate of the day.You should have purchased it from Flight 1 or from the HiFi sim website as they charge in US Dollars.

The only price that matters is the one listed on SimMarket's product pages. And the no-refund policy is extremely hard to miss as well. It's your own fault. ;-)

Mike...

You can go into your account at Simmarket and set a preference to show the price of items in USD. I did it just yesterday before I purchased the MyTraffic X Upgrade(65% discount for previous MYT 2006 users). At this point I think you should listen to Paul J and chalk it up to a lesson learned when doing business with foreign countries.Regards,Jim

>You should have purchased it from Flight 1 or from the HiFi>sim website as they charge in US Dollars.Exactly! As I said at the top of this thread, consider "where you might be inclined to purchase from next time..."Jason

Lesson I learned long, long ago. The price in the window might have said $1 for a beer, but I paid 7 peso's - whether I purchased 5.75 or 8.50 for a dollar on the base. The price in the local currency is always the price.Remember, you might have paid more US dollars to the exchange bank, but SimMarket did not get one penny more than their 33 Euros - minus the credit card company/ PayPal commission. My US BANK has recently started adding a 45 cent fee to every order I make which is processed by a foreign bank. That I'm mad about.

I saw it listed at $37.99 on the first page and 33 Euros during the checkout stage. Regardless of the exchange, the lower price advertized should always apply. That's business. On the other hand, I returned a DL product I bought from JustFlight and though I did have to jump through one or two hoops to do it, the customer service was friendly and understanding and I received a full refund.

Just do not bother wasting your time posting a review on SimMarket unless its positive and full of praise. Some negatives do ocasionally stay but any reviews Ive left that were not great simply vanished.Like my 1 star Mytraffic X review. Its MIA.

On the main product page it says:***************> Buy Now!

>On the main product page it says:>>***************>> Buy Now! <>ActiveSky Version 6.5 and ActiveSky Graphics is available for>immediate purchase and download from the following vendors:>(US $37.99, 45mb Download)>***************>That doesn't say "about" or "close to" or anything other than>$37.99. Period.>>Whatever follows, the price listed, if it is the lowest price>and there are no little stars or anything by the price telling>you to check the small print, then the lowest price applies.A distributer who sells the product in Euro's cannot match the USD price and maintain a stable price for the same product in Euro's. The 33 Euro's is the price what the hifi folks 'told' simmarket to charge for their product in Euro's.No doubt hifi made their best price estimates to keep the prices reasonably stable knowing that in reality each currency has a different value that over time will fluctuate.Who knows, it a year from now 33 Euro's may convert to 29 dollars. Are people then going to write to simmarket demanding that they be charged an additional 4 Dollars to make up the difference ??Regards.Ernie.

I just felt misled. Partly due to the notice and link on the HiFi site and then partly due to my confusion on the SimMarket site (I'm almost sure they used to tell you the converted price at checkout).Ernie, I purchased your FSBuild2 from SimMarket a year ago and I knew exactly what I was being charged at checkout ($37.46). You didn't have one price listed on your product website and then a different price directly below at checkout.OK, it was $4+ bucks... I'm over it.Jason
