What are your settings? It's odd. I noticed some of my friends are having their cpu pegged at 100% almost constantly. I'm using a 4790k and on high settings, it's about 60-90% consistently depending on location. For the FPS, I hear with developer mode enabled, you can find an FPS counter in the options.

Tried both Ultra and High - running on a 4K 40" monitor with scattered clouds. I've done no tweaking - just getting a feel for the sim

Do you have hyper threading on Vic?  I had it off and was seeing constant 100% usage...turning on HT put an end to that (and made things smoother overall for me).

Nothing truly in-sim other than the Steam FPS overlay, windows key-g also works for FPS and other info.

HT is off - I may look into enabling it .

Thanx,

Vic

I’d say worth a shot since we have the same processor...I was sceptical and never enabled it in P3D but it really made a difference for me.

Interesting. I tested it back and forth with P3d and it was nothing but trouble. With a max temp of 52C under a constant 100% load, I expect I have a little wiggle room for the temp increase that HT brings. All I can do is give it a shot. If it doesn't work for me, just another trip to the BIOS.

🙂

Where do you turn on hyperthreading?

Hyperthreading is on by default, and requires going into the BIOS to disable. So if you haven't disabled, it should already be enabled.

Yaaaaaa, it's a laptop 😓

You might want to invest in one of those cooling pads they have for laptops.

I had the same experience in P3D hence my surprise when It actually helped in MSFS 🙂

MSFS20 and P3D have nothing in common. P3D even now still has some old ESP code in it.

I just finished flying all over southern Ca. (LA area) with 'Ultra setting' only change made was turned vsync off 30 and have it locked at 30 in NVIDIA control settings. Was flying the 300 Extra very nice and smooth flight BEAUTIFUL! CPU was averaging 60-60 and GPU averaging 90's utilization. (Specs in signature) @ 1920x1080p

Hmm - enabled HT and took a short flight from KBUR-KBSP in the KIng Air with settings on medium. All e cores were about 86%, GPU stayed about 40% and CPU temps got up to 60C. Only thing I'm not thrilled about is FPS were 35-40. This is on a 4K monitor.

Also, for the record, I just went through and set everything to medium so no tweaking or thought involved.

I may try dropping the resolution and see how that affects everything. Sure looked good though.

I noticed you have an ASUS MB. Do you have a process in task manager called lightingservice.exe? If you have ever played with the lighting or RGB you just might... lightingservice.exe was killing my performance. Resulting in high CPU load and wacky GPU utilization causing unplayable stutters. I killed it and MSFS runs way smooth now! I'm blown away by the sim.

Nope. not even on my system anywhere.

I'm used to this - first time I tried P3D, I sent it back. Tried it again later on and took the time to set it up properly and never looked back.

I see MSFS with lots of promise. For me, moving the cameras around the cockpit is a pita and  mouse look is an abomination BUT I'm willing to spend the time to learn the ins and outs. Now if we could only have the ability to program keystrokes to a controller button it would be a big plus. I really hate using the keyboard when in the sim.

It takes a bit of (one time) effort, but you can map pretty much anything to controller buttons..

I use the POV hat on my yoke for looking around, and have flaps, gear, trim, etc mapped so it feels pretty comfortable..
