Prices are really getting crazy

i have 1080ti msi lightning z which I bought for 700$  Australian used 1yr and 1/2 ago

and has been running amazingly well.

i cannot justify spending almost 3000 now for a 10% increase.
Insane... to spend that amount of cash on extra vram.

I’ll wait a year and get it relatively cheaper.

It’s much bigger than 10 percent. Even from 1080ti to 3080. Regarding price for 3080ti it’s unknown at this time. My guess a couple hundred more than 3080

Nvidia have posted today that the supply shortages for 3080 and 3090 will last until 2021.

Awesome by that time we will have 3080 Super or maybe 3090 Super and dawn of 4th generation 4080/4090 cards will be out with 24gb/32gb VRAM.  You know it is coming lol.

And the same cycle will play itself out.

Might as well buy near the start of the cycle, new GPU prices don’t really change (look what a 1080Ti was selling for on its last day of production, i think the same as release day).

GPU prices are crazy. Flip side, P3D really wants a great card with lots of VRAM to run well and avoid instability.

I thought 4K meant AA could be kept to the absolute minimum?

I suspected this too, but even on a 4K, AA must be turned on. As soon as the image moves, the image gets grainy, the pixel transitions are badly visible. Same as anisotropic filtering. I guess at 300ppi+, AA should be no case. A 32" 4K screen does only have 140ppi.

Talking about 3090, it is right now a rumour, but it is suspected Nvidia will manufacture their cards in the beginning of 2021 at TSMC, because the yielding rate at Samsung is currently very bad.

Some also said the power consumption will drop down to a significant level, the fabrication process should be the reason for that. I can`t imagine that, but who knows.

AA is pretty subjective. I do have a low setting for it in P3Dv4.5 but as the machine is off can’t tell you what. I suspect the larger the display the more obvious it becomes. It can also be exacerbated by poor scenery design.

Only 140ppi! 😁 Imagine how those with huge displays cope when a 55” only gives you 80. That’s the same as a 27” 1920*1080 display! Guess why all UHD monitors are 32”. It’s the optimal size when you consider the display has to be used for a lot more than flying.

I have a 3090 on it's way next week. If I was running at 1080 then I wouldn't even have given it a second thought, I would have been more than happy with a 2080ti. But as I have been running my 43" 4k monitor with a 1080ti for so long, I really need to up my game. I've just had a new build with a I7-10700 running at 5Ghz and 32Gb RAM, so this will be the icing on the cake. But as I say, I really think a 3090 would be money well spent elsewhere for those with a 1080 display.

I run at 1080 so I’m hoping to pick up 2080ti I think it will run p3dv5 nicely.

I suspect that Nvidia introduced Ampere too early in spite of knowing that delivery problems will occur.

Maybe they are a bit nervous about the new AMD GPUs?

Clearly Nvidia is -- that is probably why they are announcing the 3070 a day after the AMD event on 10/28.

I heard cancelled over here 😞  I was waiting for a higher memory 3080 as well.  Let's hope it's just a rumor but I can tell you even my company one of the largest in the world is getting hit with 26 week lead times on components out of China... We've gone from 26 days to 26 weeks so not optimistic about getting my hands on a 3080/3090 anytime soon 😞

It really is not good as we are now left with either the 3080 or 3090.

Here in the Netherlands a reference 3090 costs € 1549 and people sell them for € 2000/2100

It's ridiculous...  That is absurd $$$ for a GPU for gaming and I don't think many things are "insane" when it comes to paying for them for the simulators but that is insane...  This could be the first time in 20 years I end up with a non Nvidia GPU.  The AMD rumors seem really compelling...

These prices are ridiculous and remind me what CPUs were costing in previous years. One good reason why I'll be staying with P3D v4.5 as I can run in UHD with my ancient 1080Ti and still get great performance.

1080Ti is still a great card, it should give great performance in any modern game/sim still.  I run one on my iRacing rig and it doesn't choke on anything at all.  Having a 1080Ti wouldn't keep me on P3D by any means but let's not go there 😉  LOL
