@awfthis is for the 3080.  Does the capacitor issue apply to the 3090 also?

Yes, but as @awf said above, not all models. I have an ASUS GeForce RTX 3090 24GB ROG STRIX GAMING OC on order and it comes with 6 MLCCs.

Well...I now feel I have a reason to wait to buy a 3080 20 GB card.  I'll let the capacitor issue sort itself out...and hopefully competitive prices, but now that I am back to DX12...I see the need (for speed).....:)

Regarding the question of AA:

The problem with the DX scene is that individual objects facets are placed in the scene alongside their neighbours before the complete scene can be AA'd. These facets must be AA'd before fitting into their position because no matter the size these are finally projected at they must have their edge pixels match with their neighbours. Edge pixels are semi-transparent to match colours with neighbouring facet pixels.

We can take an image with no AA and average the pixels without reducing the size but this leaves AA'd sides of large pixels showing. We can reduce the image into a smaller image using pixel averaging which would effectively AA the entire image, or we can reduce the screen size to reduce the ppi to such a high density until we can’t see the pixels but these techniques make the image too small and we still have close up objects remain with finely AA'd pixel sides made from many smaller pixels.

So there will always be the requirement for AA in the scene because objects up close will show edge pixels no matter what the ppi.

It seems both 3080 and 3090 are affected but not all models...

I'm personally waiting probably for the RTX 3080 20GB or RTX 3090... Following this and to see how this is unfolding.

Personally I'll be waiting to see what AMD offers. I dont need the fastest card but I need lots of memory at a good price.

Yep, that was me. I only got it a couple of days ago so I haven't had a ton of time with it. For P3D v5, which I also use, I have so far found it even less beneficial. The reason is that the VRAM requirements are less - at least for single monitor - even at 4K. It is rare in P3D to go beyond 10 GB whereas it is pretty easy to do that in MSFS at 4K. Frame rates are generally good (greater than 40 fps even in dense areas with lots of eye candy) but I could get similar performance with the 2080 TI by just dialing a few settings like reflections back a bit.

I think 24GB is still overkill, but 16Gb/20Gb should be more than enough. 3080Ti 20GB? that one should be the right card at the moment.

Here I have 2 4K displays in NVsurround connected to a 2080 Ti.

AG trees : very dense

AG buildings : dense

LOD : High

I do not see the difference between High and Ultra with PR scenery + weather haze and that saves me a lot of Vram.

Cumulus clouds 256x256 ... This gives a Sift clouds effect and again saves Vram.

It rarely surpasses 7 Gb.

I’m most curious to see bad weather night testing at busy and complex airports. That to me is where the extra horsepower would show its benefit

The 3080 20GB may be a long wait the 3070 release has now been pushed back, i am going to wait till next year, the main supplier i know near me has already sold the stock that has not even arrived, and don`t expect to have shelf stock this year as the shipping dates keep being pushed back, but they are all making a bigger profit margins as customers are willing to pay whatever the price.
