September 1, 20205 yr Hi All, I have bought the boxed version of MSFS 2020 However I have upgraded to a new system without CD drive (normal they said with new systems and no place in the case for this) So now I can't play the game because it needs the CD inserted. Anyone an idea how to fix this in my situation ? Edward MSI Tomahawk Z790, I7-13700K, DDR5 6000mhz, MSI 4090, 3x SSD 980 PRO, Corsair 360 Liguid CPU cooler, Corsair H1200V2 power.
September 1, 20205 yr Moderator First thought would be to contact MS and/or Aerosoft or wherever you purchased it to see if they have run into this before. You could also buy an external cd drive. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 1, 20205 yr Moderator I bought a USB external DVD drive for less than $20 USD. Problem solved. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
September 1, 20205 yr I thought I have read, that there should also be a code included to redeem in addition to the disc? If not, as others said, buy a cheap USB drive. It´s the best solution and might come in handy in case you still have older programs or want to rip CD music to FLAC or...

Aerosoft said, before the release, people would need to have disc 1 on the drive everytime they wanted to run the sim. Op, you will need an USB DVD driver. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel
November 18, 20223 yr Hi All Has anyone come up with a MoD to get round the need to load CD1 for the sim?
November 18, 20223 yr You could create an ISO file from the DVD (I use imgburn for that). After that you can mount the ISO as a virtual DVD (Windows 10 has support built-in for that). Nope: you'll need the DVD set anyway and complete the base package installation first (about 4hrs with a good external BD-DVD drive). Your redeem code cannot be used again, but you can close the redeem window and download the launcher from MS Store or Xbox app). Launching MSFS for the first time will complete your installation (consider 4 more hrs of content downloading + 1-2 hrs for the WUs from content manager). Did it last WE, long ride but everything works. November 18, 20223 yr Why don't you just take the CD drive out of your old system, pop the cover off your new system, hook it up temporarily to install msfs? You don't have to mount the drive in the case. Just hook up a power and data cable. Better yet, just install the old CD drive permanently in your new system. Total cost. Zero. i9-10850K, ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI), 32GB G.SKILL DDR4-3603 / PC4-28800, GIGABYTE RTX5080 16GB WF OC 3 FAN running 3440x1440

November 18, 20223 yr Share the drive. Hook up the old computer or any system with a CD-ROM and share that drive on the network. 9950X3D, PNY 5090, 64GB DDR5 6000, MSI X870-P, GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 2TB NVMe, 3440x1440 AW3423DW gsync ultimate.

I still think creating an ISO and mounting that virtually is the easiest solution. I just noticed the OP's post is 2 months ago and the thread was hijacked by @Ferg. His question was not about mounting DVD drives but whether or not using the original DVD can be circumvented. AFAIK, it can't, at least not legally.
