Way better scaling on low end system after patch!

Featured Replies

My observations:

I have a i7-4770 with 16 GB RAM and a 6 GB GTX 1060 with a 1980x1200 16:10 screen. So my system is not the fastest, especially on the GPU side. Before the patch I could play every scenario with "High-End" settings, got 25 to 35 fps depending on where I was and had some but not very severe stutters. But: the GPU utilization did prevent a very visible scaling of the fps when changing settings. In my home town of Dresden (Germany) I had ~28 fps on high settings, only ~15fps on Ultra (unflyable because it was stuttering a lot), but always around 40 fps when flying with medium or low setting. It never ever went far over 45 fps regardless of settings or scenery.

After installing the patch, this has changed entirely. In Dresden I have ~32 fps on High Settings, ~25 fps on Ultra (virtually now stutters!) but over 50 fps on medium and up to 85 fps on Low. So very obviously Asobo got rid of some very annoying bottleneck here.

In Donegal I fly with constant 30 to 32 fps on Ultra settings, which is absolutely wonderful. 🙂

ultra is too high for your setup, you can easily set some things lower without hardly any visual impact.

See my sig below for spec.

Imo, these are the best setting, when I get new PC these setting will not change. Try them.

Well, thx for the advice, but that was not the point of my post at all. 🙂

Check if your Mobo can take a 4790K, cheap these days, and you may be able to get a nice performance boost. I have mine clocked at 4.6Ghz on a better air cooler.

Hi David ,

New sim so a little Q :-)

Why have you dept of field to off ?

I have everything on ULTRA besides Volumetric Clouds ,Dept of fields(High) and can sustain 30fps most of the times with 1920x1080 scaled at 150 and OLD=130.

Thanks

That Michael.

Would be interesting to see if you tried my setting if you noticed any difference in looks and performance.

6x6 texture supersampling is essentially undetectable with 16x AF, you may as well reduce the supersampling to gain a little.

Simply not true, sitting on EGNX 27 the lines on runway are far better with 6x6 without there terrible. With AF16x ON

Even on a 55" 4K screen?

It's one of them myths that someone started.

Anyway Just ordered new PC as the release of the 3000 cards came today at 2pm UK time.

But like I said above setting will not change.

Since the GPU is the bottleneck here, a faster CPU won't do much. I actually updated from an i5-4430, which helped a lot.

But honestly that wasn't the point of my post. I just wanted to show that Asobo did a very good job with optimizing the program.

Fair enough, you're the one looking at the screen so you should know. What resolution and screen size do you run? I based most of my judgements regarding settings from   https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/how-to-graphics-settings-and-performance-guide-8-18-2020/132407 as i've an old system

1080x1920.

Have a test use EGNX 27 as the runway slopes up a bit from a default start on that runway. Set AF16 on and turn off supersampling. Look at the runways center line and add in 4x4 and then 6x6, I did not see the difference at 8x8 but 6x6 was the sweet spot. Hope it works for you to.

From FSX days to now, I don't trust any setting guilds apart from my own after I try and test everyone on my PC, no one else's. Everyone who has the patience and time should do the same. Some guilds can be terrible.
