September 18, 20205 yr well girls and boys. Seems they have discovered phosphine in the atmoshere of Venus! Too much to be associated with just geological processes. Only explanation they have currently is LIFE! https://www.wired.co.uk/article/venus-signs-of-life-discovery https://astronomynow.com/2020/09/14/possible-evidence-found-for-life-on-venus/ https://www.space.com/venus-phosphine-alien-life-breakthrough-initiatives-study.html
September 18, 20205 yr I saw this on one of the 24/7 TV news channels. It is believed to be bacterial life and scientists want a mission to Venus to capture and bring bacterial samples back to earth. Anyone else think that bringing an alien bacteria to earth is potentially a catastrophic idea or is it just me? September 18, 20205 yr The bacteria on Venus is believed to be in the atmosphere. Surface temperatures are far too hot and there is too much chlorine gas at the surface for life to exist. I expect it is quite possible for a probe to travel to Venus, skim and scoop some of the atmosphere and return to earth. The "enough delta-v" is the hard part. 🙂 And given how little we know about the geological processes on Venus, my money's on the gas being created by some natural, non-living process. It's pretty exciting, but I think we need to acknowledge that being the only explanation they have is a long way from being confirmation. Some unknown physical or chemical process may well be the explanation. Since we are talking about literally a planet which is completely alien to us, there are bound to be physical and chemical things of which we can have no knowledge. Having said all that, since they are planning a mission to go and check it out. I have some recommendations for the crew: 1 - If you get something on the radio which sounds like it might be a distress call from an old alien spaceship, ignore it. 2 - If there are any fellow crew members who seem a bit odd, who have no pictures of them as a small child or with their girlfriend or whatever, or you notice they occasionally need to plug themselves into a USB slot to charge up, then be very suspicious of their motivations. 3 - Avoid going in a spaceship equipped with a labyrinth of air ducts and crawl spaces big enough to fit anything larger than a creature you can comfortably take on with a fly swatter. 4 - Unlike on Star Trek or whatever, do not assume that you can simply open the door and you will be able to breathe. 5 - If you find any egg-shaped things, I'd recommend not putting your face near them for a closer look. Taking them as souvenirs is probably not a good idea either. 6 - Nuking the site from orbit really is the only way to be sure. As long as the proper measures are taken to contain it. We don't advance mankind's knowledge by being pussy cats. 🙂 Maybe not pussy cats, my cat is quite hard...

As you probably know we have actually landed on the surface of Venus. Venera 7 was the mission. https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/missions/venera-7/in-depth/ Quote Goals: Venera 7's objective was to transmit data from the surface of Venus. Since the Venera 4, 5, and 6 missions ended when intense atmospheric pressure crushed the probes far above the ground, Venera 7's landing capsule was designed to withstand pressures of up to 180 atmospheres and temperatures as high as 540 degrees Celsius, more than enough to survive all the way to the planet's surface. Accomplishments: Venera 7 was the first spacecraft to transmit data from the surface of any extraterrestrial planet, though its success was uncertain at first. The probe sent data to Earth for 35 minutes while falling through the atmosphere, but the data transmission appeared to be replaced by noise as soon as the capsule hit the ground. Computer processing revealed, however, that this noise contained nearly 23 minutes of additional information at 1 percent of normal signal strength. The transmitted data indicated a surface temperature of 475 give or take 20 degrees Celsius and a pressure of 90 give or take 15 atmospheres. As I said, the only explanation "currently". They have considered geological processes and cant see any way that such processes could cerate the quantity of phosphine. The only explanation they can come up with at the moment is life. Nothing definitive yet, just a tentative hypothesis. More research required. Good run down from Doctor Becky at 22:42...
