October 10, 20205 yr Commercial Member Hello everyone! I've recently notice that no matter the game settings, my 1080ti is always running at in between 85% - 100% with MSFS. I run a 1440p monitor and I feel like something is wrong. Is this normal? Has anyone seen or heard of this before? Low End - 85% Ultra - 100% Thanks for you kind help! October 10, 20205 yr You paid for the card, it's just unleashing it's full potential. Why would you utilise just part of your card power?
October 10, 20205 yr Of course this is normal. If you are not limiting the performance either by FPS limiter of VSync, then it will always pump out as much as possible.

If your CPU is at 100% then you should worry, but let your GPU do the best she can for you 🙂
October 10, 20205 yr Completely normal. At 1440p you are GPU restricted, which means you would benefit from an even more powerful GPU in the future. I have an RTX 2080 Super which is somewhat close to the GTX 1080 ti in performance and I'm also pegged at around 100% at 3440x1440 60 Hz. My CPU is barely breaking a sweat at around 10-45 % utilization on the first 4 cores. Meaning no benefit from upgrading CPU, but definate benefit from upgrading GPU. (However I would wait for 3070 16 GB or 3080 20 GB, because higher resolutions would benefit from more VRAM.) October 10, 20205 yr Keep an eye on your GPU temps too because at 84C your voltages will be throttled to protect your card and you'll get some bad stutters as your card cools down. I live in a warm climate where it's well into spring so I have to watch the temps closely. 83C is pretty hot for your GPU.Check out MSI Afterburner if you haven't already. An excellent tool you can use to watch the behaviour of your GPU. Mike Beckwith
October 10, 20205 yr Author Commercial Member According to MSI Afterburner I am at 81c. Also, my CPU is around 30% at 60c so I guess I am good 🙂 Edited October 10, 20205 yr by Clem116 Discord | YouTube | iFly Schedules 34" Odyssey OLED G8 175Hz | 3440X1440 | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | PNY VERTO OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB | G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 | Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 | Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 | ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler | Fractal Design North XL ATX Full Tower Case

October 10, 20205 yr More usage is better when it comes to a GPU. Only I never OC my GPU as it can lead to many issues - heat, noise and instability. October 10, 20205 yr 81 is pretty hot. Do you have a fan speed curve enabled? I was getting about 83 before I enabled a fan curve and I now get about 67, and this is with an ambient temp of about 25.The thing with the fan speed is that the manufacturer sets it very low so that it's not too noisy but what use is that when your card is running at close to 100%. Have you had a look at the settings options? That's the big button close to the bottom with a cog on it. Mike Beckwith
October 10, 20205 yr Author Commercial Member Here is my fan curve. Note that FS is NOT running in that screenshot. UPDATE: After trying to boost my fans to 100% it only drop 1 or 2c to about 78c. So not a whole lot but it is SO loud. October 11, 20205 yr I’d suggest picking an FPS you can live with and pull up the sim in the custom 3D settings that only apply the that app and cap the FPS to that. I noticed early on between the sim pushing my gpu and cpu my cooling loop with a single 30mm 360 rad was not coping well keeping coolant temp down without really cranking fans so I’ve capped at 40 for now until I get a 2nd rad plumbed in. Temps are much better with that. Lowering the FPS output will help lower the heat. October 11, 20205 yr yup something is always a bottleneck in your PC when it comes to 'games' sims whatever they all more or less operate the same. If you lower graphical settings down enough then the CPU becomes the bottleneck; if you jack up the settings then the GPU starts to become the bottleneck. If you lower things so much that neither of those things are limiting factors then you start running into issues of the code base itself etc. I have a vanilla 1080 SC and it always runs hot and loud I think its jut the cooler design for that card they ended up rev'ing them a few times but yeah try and keep it below 80C if possible. I had to jack my fans up to max the whole time its loud and obnoxious but does the trick at least. Edited October 11, 20205 yr by pjs37

October 11, 20205 yr I have a 1080Ti running at 2k (1440). Airflow into the case (and out) is definitely just as important as the GPU fans themselves, if not more. I turn all of my fan cases to maximum (still not too noisy), set my GPU fan locked at 50% (can't hear it above the MSFS aircraft normally), but most importantly, set FPS to 30 in Riva Tuna. I set my GPU fan to a locked speed because it is more tolerable noise at a locked pitch, but I really notice the fan when it varies a lot. This setting normally gives me 30 FPS stutter free in most areas. It is setting the 30FPS that stops the stuttering and over temps. I can reach 78-79C, but no stuttering at those temps. Without locking the FPS to 30, with my settings (a mixture of medium / high / ultra), I go to 84C within no time and the card starts stuttering as it pulls back on power etc. Oh, and definitely no overclocking, as that was the only thing that caused me CTD's. I also want to experiment with slightly under-volting the card to reduce temperatures even further. Does anyone have suggestions for the best way to do that on a 1080Ti? Software etc? My card is Gigabyte. The software can over-volt, but not under-volt it seems. Edited October 11, 20205 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).
