1.9.5.0 is cooking my GPU again

Featured Replies

This is the effect of shambolic alpha/beta and no proper amount of time spent on optimization with such a large group of customers, what a shame. No overclocks, i7700 + 32 gb + RTX2070s and I'm getting black screen (loss of video output) 5 minutes of being in the air. My god, what a s**t show this is becoming. Sigh.

I am manually cranking it up almost to the max in the Afterburner before I fire up the sim. In 1.9.3.0 I was able to put in 2h+ flights, no issues what so ever. They're clearly screwing around with something hoping for the best. Off to Zendesk this goes. This will be my 8th (8th!!!!) ticket on the same thing since March.

Black screen problems have been reported with some of the latest Nvidia drivers, so most probably not the sim causing it? Have you installed the latest 456.71 WHQL driver?

Same driver, new sim version and radical negative change of this nature. It is the sim.

This has nothing to do with MSFS, sorry.

Oh yeah? Too bad the last version was super stable for me, probably the most since the early alpha versions. I've been building my own machines since the mid 90's and flying the simulators since around the same time, also working in the software dev/implementation industry and can clearly tell when versions are causing radical changes without any hardware changes. It's amazing that from one hour it works superbly well, and the next post patch I'm having issues. I don't even want to hear this.

OMG, clogging up the zen desk w/ an 8th ticket on the same thing, and you were flying ok in 1.9.3?   I'd bet the problem is squarely in your software setup or bum hardware and has zero to do w/ the patch.   Now the zendesk has to field your claim that their patch had anything to do w/ this.  I hope you've reinstalled NV drivers, and other troubleshooting maneuvers because weak claims only take resources away from other problems to investigate.  I have RTX2070 as well--no problems whatsover post-patch.  There is no way you can conclude this was the patch when ample others w/ NV cards/drivers aren't experiencing this.

Good for you dude. Enjoy the simulator. I wouldn't whine about this if the behavior of this wasn't changing for me from one version to another starting from alpha versions 1.4.x.

I have a similar set up in my living room as media center 7700k 64GB ram thats all the ram that old board takes and water cooled with a 2080s also no overclock nothing has gone wrong so far i had only done 2 flights since yesterday’s update . First flight 2h 42 mins and second was just over 5h only at 2 1/2 hours the temps climbed a bit but nothing scary. One thing to note is that i keep the room temperature at or around 67F when running a pc for longer than 1 hour .

I don't want to sound condescending, but when doing it this long, I would assume one would have a good understanding of requiring a proper air -or water flow to cool the equipment when it is running at designed operating range.

Personally I don't see any difference, not that I'm monitoring thermals that close anyway.

since you seem to be the only one with that problem, its obvious the issue is at your end.

and ofcourse you dont wanna hear that..well good luck

Clearly I'm not a n00b at this. The box is running in the basement where the temps are the same the entire time and there was no change between when I successfully completed last flight, to simply applied the patch and failed 3 or 4 times post patch around the same time. It makes absolutely no sense.
If there's a need to update the driver with this version or if it was at least suggested by MSFT, that would be nice. I shouldn't have to update drivers with each patch release.

That too is true for me.  System specs in my signature, no overclocks, all rendering scales set to 120, some med and some high settings.  I can't even hear my current system and it is at my left knee.  It just never needs to wind up.  Driver is still 452.06.

Nothing untoward temp wise noted here with this patch.  However (although I had no black screens) I did spot a couple of weeks ago that PC fans were really spinning up hard all of a sudden when running MSFS so I checked all the filters around my (water cooled) PC.  The filter in front of the radiator block was chock full of dust. I also remembered to check the filter on the bottom of the case below the PSU (these are often overlooked / unknown about).  Again the dust bunnies had piled up there. Having cleared them all the screaming fans screamed no more.  Just a gentle (normal) rise in general noise when running MSFS and Corsair Link reported normal temps.  Obviously can't tell if it's anything to do with what happened to you but it's worth doing such dust checks on filters regularly against noise / heating issues.
