Yep, both installed, but no traffic!!

No idea then? It's working for me just as in 2020. I prefer it to the 2024.

  • Together with Knud, Kai we are progressing towards the first live marine traffic version... Today was test day for new models - in particular the two new giant DFDS ferries Luna Seaways and Aura

GAIST Ultra V7 is now available on Fligthsim.to and on the Alpha India Group site.

The new version works both in MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024.

V7 contains more than 1000 unique ship models with more than 2400 liveries and they are activated with more than 80.000 ship movements in the offline version, but they can now also be used with MSFS 2024 real time traffic.

New in version 7:

  • Models have been made compatible with both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 including MSFS 2024 live traffic
  • Most models have had LODs added to improve performance
  • New models have been added such as many fishing boats, coast guard vessels, offshore vessels, container ships, ...
  • Some older models have been visually updated with new model files and textures
  • Some older models not suitable for MSFS 2024 have been retired
  • Some texture issues from V6.1 are corrected
  • Preprogrammed traffic has been intensified and new types of traffic added and new areas covered

For those who want to try real time traffic in MSFS 2024 but still use offline AI, you need to set the ingame AI source to Real Time under "Online" in settings and then disable the Airplanes in the “Graphic section” of the settings.

NCL Salten, a 134 meter container ship ran aground near Trondheim, Norway, last week and still sits solid near the house it almost crushed with the owner Johan not even waking up... You can find the ship in MSFS 2024 with live traffic enabled it you fly from Trondheim, Vaernes ENVA / TRD towards the west passing the city of Trondheim and continuing for approx 10 km. If the ship does not appear it can have been salvaged - but they expect this still to take some days - or you might have a temporary data glitch - try without interupting your flight to disable and enable real time traffic under "online" in settings.

Using this package with the live traffic really solves the issue of ships not showing up far away enough.

Which proves that the default models by Gaya, as nice as they look, are the culprit because they lack LOD's for greater distances.

Kind of typical for some of the approach that went into the default packages. Half measures all around.

The other ones are the issues the live traffic display that you already pointed out yourself. Like ship orientatition being wrong when ships are not moving, model matching being a hit and miss or wake animation missing when the ships move.

The wakes are actually there, but they are dependent on two factors speed and water surface condition - regards to the later there needs to be at least 5 knots of wind on the ground surface for anything to appear - and regards to speed: In real life ships today go very slow - maybe 8-15 knots to save energy while my AI traffic operates at 25 knots. As the same ship models are being used for both off and online the wake files does not display equally well - but actually you will also today in real life see less wake behind ships than 25 years ago due to the reduced speed.

Awesome thanks for the update.

I installed v7 in msfs2024 yesterday and tried with shipping set to low and to off and noticed no difference.

Interestingly, whilst I had a bit of a performance hit with previous versions in msfs2020, I've not noticed any issues with the latest versions of msfs and gaist at all so far, though may do in some of my higher VRAM usage areas (will lest a few later on).

Had a flight around the Strait of Dover and all was good and will try a flight around New York later as I particularly like to see the Staten Island ferries.

The cross channel ferries and fishing vessels all look good, I've noticed a few more liquid natural gas carriers and also a few cruise liners here and there.

Thanks for the update KL791. I like anything that adds to the realism of flight simulation.

Ah, that explains why they show up in the offline traffic and not in the live traffic.

I will see if I can reprogram them to include a speed factor, but programming is not my specialty and it is a long time I didn't work on the wakes, so I always postpone for tomorrow. Luckily if I solve it it won't take many seconds to implement across the entire fleet.

Yeah, I'm not sure the wakes really react like you expect in live traffic. I just had a data repositioning refresh of a cruise ship in the channel which made the ship move at impossible speeds. Even that did not produce any wake effect. So I'm not sure if they really work.

A real kicker would be if some talented person where to program a plugin program for the ingame toolbar that takes your current position, shows you the marine traffic layer and makes it possible to view the same data that you can see on the website so that you could identfy ships you see in the sim on the fly.

Hi, I use EGHH for all my testing. You mention "shipping", do you mean "sea traffic"? On LNM around the Solent I just have a mass of AI ships and no gaist! Can you verify what setting you have please?

Thanks

To illustrate I put a small huricane in New York, where a huge container ship was just on it's way in very slowly accompanied by tugs. By adding a lot of wind the wakes becomes visible despite the slow speed - so the my point is valid - That said those wakes are obviously not good looking but for that the reprogramming has to be done. With time.

The container ship Toledo Triumph entering New York - there is approx 4-5 minutes delay on data and matching is not perfect - but Madrid Bridge is a sister to Toledo Triumph.
