To add, the custom FBW is almost there, I just tested and it is very very good

It's possible to try it using the current DEV release?

Amazing! No rant about the broken SDK in the FBW homes :).

No, they actually tease 3PDs from time to time, saying that the current SDK allows for pretty much all that is needed to create quality addons. 😄

Happy with MSFS 🙂

The SDK is pretty much mostly complete in terms of core features - if you were able to code something for P3D, it's possible to port over the same code without any loss of functionality (with two notable exceptions: native weather data and terrain/navdata API's have not yet been implemented in the MSFS SDK). Working Title and Aerosoft have also confirmed this as well (read Mathijs Kok's thoughts on it here). Obviously there are other QoL features the SDK needs, but I am confident they will arrive in time. I personally don't believe it's a matter of SDK maturity or development time, especially when it comes to PMDG, but rather priorities. In their case, alongside MSFS, they are also choosing to work on the 737 BBJ, updates to the 777, and a new unannounced aircraft, all for P3D. Most payware companies are small, so putting out content for multiple sim platforms like that will obviously take a toll on development time.

As for the custom autopilot, it's something we were always planning to implement. However, given the rapid progress on our custom FBW system and the turbulent state of new sim updates, we realize it's something we should prioritize sooner than later. It will be built to work on top of the custom fly-by-wire system, and be released as open source, just like the rest of the aircraft (under the GPL v3 license).

Surely from a business case point of view not prioritising the MSFS aircraft could cost PMDG a massive amount of money if what you say is true?

The opposite.

They sell the BBJ and 777 for P3D, and by then MSFS is ready to port over the Legacy code and they sell the NG3 for MSFS. All this done in the same time frame it would take them to only re-write code and sell the NG3 for MSFS. In either case, the NG3 takes a year to reach the market (new or old code) - but by waiting for old Legacy Code to be compatible, they can sell 2 more products in the interim.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.

Download it from here, if not mistaken they are going to move the code to the main repo as fbw branch but is not built yet (I think, perhaps @IcemanFBW can clarify this)

Thanks, I will also try doing landing again, it stayed in the same mode below 50ft in previous version DEV and Release.

I'd be curious to know if the new dev mod is flyable.  The one previous to this one had the AP issues so it made flying impossible.  I am waiting for someone to confirm so i don't spend time doing a flight plan, etc. then taking off and running into problems.  2 mods ago the plane would veer off course at like a 45 degree bank and the last mod for me did the same thing but a very shallow bank

If no other company makes a study level 737 NG3 for MSFS before PDMG.  Most likely, no other company will.

For scenery developers, it's much easier and faster to create scenery so if you're late to release scenery compared to a competitor, you can lose some money (ie. FSDT released CYVR before FSimStudios).

But if a company can manage to release a semi study level 737 before PMDG, it will hurt their sales. We have a lot of new pilots who are unaware of FSX and P3D addons, who will just buy the first one released, if it's sexy and close to reality enough for them.

I tried developer version yesterday and ended up in "graveyard spiral" after engaging autopilot

Good news for the A320. Excellent idea by the FBW team, I suppose they got enough from Asobo already, as we did.

Ugh... so frustrating.  I have never seen something get released and then worsen in a bunch of aspects after updates.  MSFS was better the day it was released compared to now. Hopefully FBW will release their AP soon so we can fly again.

Tell me about! I'd say there is problem with management ! Now able to put competent quality assurance people is really throwing reputation of the whole MSFS enterprise in bad place.
