December 23, 20205 yr If you want to do a quick assessment of what would be the heavy-hitters in your loading times, Addons Linker lets you sort your mods by both size and file count. If you look at the list using those sorts it would give you some idea where the most gain could be had by disabling things.

December 23, 20205 yr YES you should, as W10 will NOT defrag it : it will simply trim it, and this is really good for your disk. You should not defrag an ssd ... using W7 ! but who uses W7 among us today !
December 23, 20205 yr Author Without "community" folder It takes 2 minutes. I still have some addon that bought within MSFS. Is that 2 mins too long for no payware/freeware? I saw someone post half a min. How did that happen? 🙂 In any case, let me disable some of the big folders addons and see. Today its going to be loading sessions. 🙂 Edited December 23, 20205 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 23, 20205 yr Enabling the rolling cache and caching my local area in the manual cache helps a little with loading times. I can confirm that cities and other areas made from google images does slow things down a lot. I set up my PC to hibernate and therefore don't need to reload MSFS when I start up. I have Windows 10 on a 250 GB SSD and MSFS on another 250 GB SSD which I intend to clone onto a new 1 TB SSD in due course. Of course, a fast and reliable internet connection will affect loading times considerably. December 23, 20205 yr Author I've made real progress. thanks to y'alls many and wonderful suggestions. 11:06 Start finished at 11:11 = 5 minutes. So addition from empty "community" is +3 minutes..that ain't bad. I can live with it. I kept all my paywares and most of my freeware. Just disabled a few with huge size and tons of files But Asobo could help improve since most of my threads are not busy at all. They should see if they can better use the mutithreading for loading sceneries. Edited December 23, 20205 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 23, 20205 yr Great thread! Maybe worthy of a sticky. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

They are two different procedures. An SSD should NEVER be defragged but should occasionally be TRIMmed. HOWEVER - w10 still has a bug where it is possible that the logic for recognizing an SSD will fail when using the defrag command and, instead of trimming the drive it will defrag it. So, most drives come with some support software and you can run the trim command from there to be safe. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 23, 20205 yr Uninstall and use https://www.geo-fs.com/ instead 😉 I also think the loading time is pretty heavy, seems there isn't much that can be done.
December 23, 20205 yr This is a great reminder of why I do not have a lot of stuff loaded in my community folder. I have 2 airports and Robert's turbo. I will add more airplanes, but not interested in anymore scenery. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

I will add more airplanes, but not interested in anymore scenery. You are losing out. I managed to reduce my load time even more to just +1 min for so many addon airports (Payware and Freeware). As long as you remove those cities that has huge folder size or number of files, you should be good. If I delete the community folder, It takes 3 minutes. Now with so many addons It takes 4 minutes. Just 1 additional minute. We just need to be educated like in this thread and then be judicious until Asobo figurs out how to use all the cores to load them all. 🙂 Edited December 23, 20205 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
