Driving me nuts thread

Featured Replies

So I'm flying in a C152.  On the tail it says G-BRBP and on the panel it says G-BRBP so why does MSFS keep calling me by it's default callsign?

Then it tells me to enter the pattern for RWY 27 in a raging easterly wind.

When I take off or land an airport vehicle drives across the runway in front of me.

Add to that, the fact that my Logitech Attack 3 joystick is still too twitchy even with sensitivity at -99 and reactivity at 1.

The other day it told me I wasn't connected to the internet when I was and last week asked me to put a a DVD that I don't have in the DVD drive that I don't have either.

Following the last update, my terrain is littered with spikes.

What Is driving you around the bend with MSFS.

nothing, i love it, despite the issues.

Not saying I don't love it, because it's a brilliant sim and I do love it.  There are just a few issues that are bugging me that should really have been sorted in beta testing.

I'm sure with a few more months of development, we will have something superb.  I wonder how long MS will continue developing and supporting though (I guess as long as they are making money out of it).

You can type in a special call sign where you type in the tail number.

I absolutely love the sim (and the community around it), and I am grateful it has been released.  I am enjoying it immensely within the bounds of its current limitations and certain immersion breaking problems.
However, I am frustrated and disappointed by some of the issues, particularly since these issues weren't there at one stage, but have been introduced during updates.
So I am not complaining about bug fixes or missing features not being delivered quickly enough, it is about stuff regressing quite badly without any explanation.

I have to question what Asobo are doing, because I don't understand what the hell is going on, and why they don't see these things themselves.
They break the scenery with spikes all over the landscape by issuing an update the day before they go on holiday, and once again it was left for people in the community to fix it for the sake of the simmers.

The sad part is that people get criticised for being critical, and there is a lot of defensiveness coming from people who seem to defend the sim and MS / Asobo at all costs.
I am not a programmer, and I don't need to be to be able to criticise.  If I take a car back because it isn't working propely, the guy doesn't say 'but it's hard - have you tried building one yourself?'

I understand it is not easy when you are dealing with gigabytes of data and tens of thousands of lines of code, but I am allowed to be critical because I have been a simmer since PC's first had them, and I know what it should do and I know what it should look like, but mainly I can be critical because I am a paying customer for a product that has become WORSE (in some big areas) since release.  Should I just sit there and say nothing?

I have a massive list of smaller issues, but forget about them, these are a few of the bigger issues that are pretty shabby at the moment: -

1. Scenery spikes around the world (regression).  Now a community fix is available - based on Asobo's own older files I believe.  Yes...  You are entitled to laugh and shake your head at that.

2. Tropical water masks being removed (regression) - This was going to take a matter of days to fix apparently, so what happened?  No explanation.  There are a few now if you care to look for them in the specific thread, but they haven't delivered what they said.

3. Black lines / steps across runways that can actually cause your light aircraft to flip over on landing (Had some initially, were fixed, now as bad as ever again, so a regression).

4. Night lighting that was absolutely beautiful and atmospheric to start with, but now looks fairly uninteresting, over-bright, and soulless. (regression)  Why did they do this, people just wanted the sepia landscapes removed.

5.  Morphing scenery well within your view, and disrupted coastlines.  (regression)

These are not minor issues to me; I think it is fair to be able to complain about these issues.   It hasn't totally broken the sim, but what is wrong with asking what the hell is going on?, because I have real concerns about Asobos capability, and quality control at the moment.
One way of predicting the future is to look at past performance.  We have had one update I believe that was fairly good, but some significant complaints have followed others, with some pretty serious bugs/regressions introduced.  I am really concerned about OUR beatiful sim, and where it is going - Maybe someone can tell me why I shouldn't be concerned.

Now, for people who want to pile on, read my first line again, then tell me why it is not fair to complain about these things.

These are a couple of people only, always the same. They do more harm than good to the sim IMHO.

Yes, I know what you are talking about!   👍   Problem deniers never solved anything.  They never help improve the standards.

All the same, I wouldn't like to see them leave here - I just wish they were more constructive, rather than being full on with -  'The sim is great, you don't know how lucky you are, what's wrong with you guys!'

From their strength of feeling, I wonder if they are worried about Asobo walking away from the sim if it takes too much criticism.

Nobody wants them to leave. It is rather them who want us to shut up if I understand them well 😏.

And if they think that our discussions can drive Spencer to close shop on MFS they are seriously deluded on our collective leverage  🤣.

But what do you expect to happen as a result of posting it here? It seems to me that if you have real concerns about Asobo then it would make sense to direct these concerns to Asobo. If you have complaints about a service being provided, shouldn't you direct your concerns toward the entity providing said service?

It's not perfect for sure. But I have over 50 hours flying so there's that.

I have, and also with developers of the payware and freeware for the sim (who seem to respond very well up to now actually).

It does have value to raise issues (some say complain) about things here, as 1, you need confirmation that other are seeing the same thing, and 2, sometimes people have helped out by saying 'you are doing that wrong' or 'there is a community fox for that, go here...'.

A lot of the complaining you see here is because Asobo don't respond very well to the issues raised through the formal channels.  If they do read these forums at Avsim (as they claim to), then they can come here and read through some of the frustration and maybe take a temperature gauge of that opinion as well.  They should be able to do that and take it on the chin shouldn't they?  Or should the feelings of simmers (good or bad) be hidden from them?

Yes, same here. Just over 100 hours up for me now Rob, and plenty of good hours!

I just get frustrated when I go in after an update to see some things have gone backwards somewhat, and knowing a fix might not be coming anytime soon, but mostly because there is no reason why some of the regressions seem to happen - it is a mystery, and seems to be to Asobo as well sometimes.  I do actually like the developers, and I feel sorry for them (almost embarrassed for them) when the issues happen.  It is perplexing and frustrating for them just as much I am sure. 👍

Good points and a good post, but a lot of this reminds me of what happing with the media/all the news channel here in the UK. I will give you just one e.g. I could write a book on how sick to dead and how angry I am. When the rumours were that we were heading into another lock down, every news channel had every tom dick and harry that spewed out words like " our human right" - " how dare they even thing about telling us how and what we can do at Christmas" the left wing was going crazy over the "dictatorship" and that's all they feed us for weeks, until the government said " we can all have Christmas, then what happened, the very same people did nothing but put people on telling us " it will cost lives " how can they let people have Christmas" and on it goes.....I hate all the news channel and imo they all have a lot of bloody on there hands. The point being.

Night lighting. How many posts and complains were they? they fixed it? then the very same people every single tom dick and harry gave what they thought it should look like, they changed it again and.....repeat.....I think the night lighting looks great next person. I don't like xyz.....

Dammed if they do, dammed if they don't.

All your point are good but the night lighting is down to tom, dick and harry and like the government thinking there doing right giving them what there asking for. Then the same people bit them in the back side...

True David! 👍  Maybe there is too much input sometimes and it makes them chase their own tail not knowing or understanding what people want.  Subjective matters like this are difficult to resolve to everyone's liking.

Ultimately, after starting out working with the community, I can just see them taking firm control - 'We have had enough, we can't do right for doing wrong, it's our sim, we are doing it our way, if you don't like it tough!' (they wouldn't say the last thing of course, but they would think it.)

Personally, despite my own issues and complaints about the sim, I would have taken this route a long time ago!

It doesn't make it right about the buggy regressions they have introduced though (not the subjective opinion ones) - that is on them, nobody gave them a bum steer on the scenery spikes and distorted coastlines etc.
A lot of this negativity and noise would go away if they just introduced hotfixes quicker.  If a guy on flightsim.to did it in a matter of days with Asobo's own files he had backed up, I am sure they should be able to.  It would solve a lot of the negativity issues.  👍
