January 21, 20215 yr Is there an issue with live weather being depicted in the sim today? I did a flight out of KALB and the metar was reporting snow, various cloud layers and wind. That was reported in the real world and getting the metar in the A320. However, it was perfectly calm and clear in the sim. I heard good things about Unreal Weather so I decided to give that a try and installed it per the instructions. Same thing, I picked that preset, the sim preset metar was reporting what the real world was, but in the sim perfectly calm and clear. Is there an issue today? I only did one flight with live weather today, but it was perfectly calm and clear as well. Didn't think about it as I assumed that was the real weather. January 22, 20215 yr At least here in Switzerland, Unreal Weather is usually more spot on. However, as for any weather addon so far (including REX, according to what I read), they only show one weather theme throughout the whole sim at once. Means: if we have a nice looking fog layer in Switzerland and you fly out of Switzerland, this weather "theme" persists until the new weather theme is loaded and then the new theme is applied again globally. And this sucks. For regional VFR flying, Unreal Weather is my favorite, for any A to B flights longer than some miles, I stick with live weather, as it is way more powerful in showing different weather themes and there is no abrupt switch between them. January 22, 20215 yr I have Unreal Weather installed just as a backup for when live weather fails to work properly... which is quite often! I too prefer to accept the occasional inaccuracy of live weather to avoid seeing the same weather all the way to the horizon, and the abrupt changes, that come with weather add-ons. filbertflies.com | YouTube | Twitchi7 13700k, GeForce RTX 3080Ti, 32GB RAM

As Filbert has pointed out they are all pretty inaccurate in some way. I flick between REX and live weather and as he says I prefer live weather for the same reason. It just seems to have a consistency do it. Although live weather did give me clear weather the other night at egcc when it was snowing with CBs reported. Thunder Snow!!
January 22, 20215 yr Author Interesting, so are you saying the Unreal Mod gets you accurate weather based on the metar at the departure airport but it stays the same until you reach the next metar within your route. Therefore, the changes aren't gradual or dynamic? And the opposite is with the sim Live Weather? It is based on non metar (can't remember what Asobo uses) but it is gradual and dynamic, just not always working correctly? 8 hours ago, AnkH said: At least here in Switzerland, Unreal Weather is usually more spot on. January 22, 20215 yr Author I can't figure this out still... No matter what I use and where I go, I have clear skies and calm weather. What could be causing this? The weather is reporting different weather but in the sim it is clear. January 22, 20215 yr Weather issues pop up on this forum every couple of days. Here is a fix for everyone who has issues with MSFS Live Weather. It worked for me for over 2 months and over 150 flying hours, since I implemented this procedure: Spawn at gate/runway with 'Preset - Clear Skies'. At the gate/runway when completely loaded, after you hit the 'Fly' button, change to 'Live Weather' via the top menu. After a few seconds real weather is loaded, sometimes it takes up to 10 sec or so. Loading weather this way, gives you a highly accurate depiction. The wind/baro is spot on 90% of the time. I fly in Europe, North America and Asia.... When you switch location after a completed flight, or if you crash.... you need to restart MSFS and proceed as above. Hope this helps. Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
January 22, 20215 yr I like the thunder and lightning you get every time with real weather even on a clear day. Raymond Fry.
January 22, 20215 yr As stated in another topic here, I have found that if you load an aircraft/departure and default to "Clear Skies" and then go to the "FLY" screen and hit the "FLY" button, and then go to the weather screen and hit "Live" you will always (I think) get the real weather (as far as Metroblu thinks).
