Don’t bet on it. When A2A abandoned the lovely pinup which was their trademark, not long ago, to be politically correct I suppose, there were a couple of idiots who applauded the move as long overdue !

The same people who not long from now will take a fence at anyone saying "hello" to them...."politically correct" has gone way way to far.

I've got a couple of examples and then I'm done. These are two wonderful Kodachrome photos from the Curtiss factory at the time, part of a great series that is easily found on the web. I rely on period photos if at all possible instead of someone's artwork since all sorts of variations can creep in. Both photos show AN Dark Olive Drab 41 over AN Neutral Gray 43, which was AAF Spec at the time of Pearl Harbor. As you can see, the value (lightness or darkness of a color) of the two aren't too far apart. You can also see the size of the red circle within the insignia. Another thing to note is the length of the landing gear and the very prominent armored glass in the cockpit. It looks quite empty without it. As mentioned previously, there are many other issues with other schemes.

For those that don't care about the markings or accuracy, I get it. There are many warbird owners who don't either, and that's their prerogative. However, as a paying customer, some of us look at the whole package and see what kind of care and research went into it. The markings are a clear indicator and something easily researched. I would hope that those that just care about how it flies would respect that, much as I respect their focus. I care how it flies too, it's just not my only concern. It's a total package. However any dev should be open to constructive criticism from potential customers, which sadly doesn't seem to be the case here. If there are hurt feelings, I'm not sorry, it's not about feelings, it's about helping to improve a product that has even more potential.

Take care

It's ironic that people would laud the undeniably great authenticity of A2A, but then complain about the authenticity of using a pin up for their logo.

There is a difference between accurately representing history in the rendition of something historically relevant, and using that same history for advertising.

To use a different symbology:   a company that created detailed replicas of German WW2 equipment would be entirely within the bounds of decorum to put the hakenkreuz on their products.   However, to put it in their logo and use it for advertising would, I hope, be looked at askance by reasonable people.

Historical relevance can be used as a rationalization for the use of offensive imagery, but that justification is highly context-dependent.   If A2A felt like they were better off removing imagery that some found offensive from their advertising materials -- and, unless they have commented on this, you have no way of knowing whether it was an action they took of their own accord or if they were motivated by those who "just want to be seen to be offended" -- then good on them, I say.

Besides, this topic is about Big Radials, not A2A, and it's bizarre that people felt the need to drag it off topic to whine about "political correctness" and "social justice agendas".

Yup, seen those pics before, and you're right, they are nice. They're somewhat over-saturated in the longer wavelengths, as is usually the case with Kodachrome, but not in an unpleasing way; the warmth of Kodachrome shots is of course why people like them and why it was a popular film for so many decades. So I suspect if the colours we see on those pics were ever-so-slightly desaturated in the long end of the EM spectrum, it would be a pretty good indication of what the things really did look like at the time.

By way of example, this is a genuine WW2 colour photograph from very early in the war since the Hurricane has a Watts propeller; I think most people would agree that the colours are a bit off the mark, although as I say, I've got a panel from a WW2 Spitfire with the original paint on it, and the brown on that pic is not as far out as some people might imagine when you look at the brown on that panel, the green on this pic however, is miles away from the real colour. Still a great picture though and unusual in showing one before it has had its squadron codes applied.

eIFQP0F.jpg

That Spitfire panel below. You can see what I mean about the green. This came from an original Supermarine-built Mark 1 Spitfire from the first production batch, with the colour having been applied by Supermarine at Woolston. Note the countersunk fastener holes on it and the fact that it appears to have been painted before being used in construction: You can see that it crashed with considerable force, since it was in a power-on dive and on fire when the pilot bailed out and it drilled itself into the ground, where it remained until the mid-1980s.

UXwUHQY.jpg

Back with Uncle Sam however, this is an olive drab engine cowling gill from a WW2 Douglas C-47. When you actually have it in your hands and look at it for real, it appears darker than it looks on this picture, but the colour itself is conveyed quite well:

Incidentally, having all this stuff in your house is a great way to make you incredibly popular with your house-proud partner. As is having a massive bookcase along the entire length of the third floor landing full of books about warplanes. 🤣

im sorry what? 😄

I offered you to have a FREE copy of the plane, to have a look for yourself. I also said i would be more than happy to get a DM from you (AFTER you tried the product) to give me some specific pointers as to where and how it might be wrong. And you REFUSED to even have a look at our aparently so awful plane that you wouldnt touch even if it was free. I never heard or seen any dev do that before lol. And by the way, your potential free plane actually went to someone else from this thread. (Nyyxx, who was skeptical about the product at first, he got the free copy instead of you, and you know what he did? DMed me with a few bugs he found, and i thanked him for that, you see, its really much simpler that way)

So please stop that BS, and stop saying you'r a potential customer, because we all know you'r not. Dont like it? say it once, and move on, you'll lead a much better life that way. Its really a shame, you had some good points. Ive said numerous times that i know they arent perfect....actually, whatever, im wasting my time.

@Coneman You might have wanted to introduce yourself with constructive criticism, then.

Keeping along with my unfortunate trend recently of posting that “I can’t believe what some people think is an acceptable way to talk to payware developers”, I just have to say that one of the attractions of this aircraft to me (and why I’m going to buy it shortly - would have bought it earlier but it’s actually been warm and sunny here for the first time in months so I was no where near my simming computer) is that @leprechaunlive is right here, front and centre in the forum engaging with customers, helping out, receiving feedback, providing info etc.  Not quite sure how that presence could be criticized, but here we are.

I've heard too many horrors stories of people unable to contact devs for a simple question. Plus, i was here LONG before i turned into a dev 😄

The Mooney from Carenado is the same way. If you have the vent window open then as soon as your wheels leave the ground, instance overstress crash.

True forgot about those, both their Seminole and Mooney have this issue, yet the JF Piper, spit and Corsair don't.   I hope the dev figures out a way to make that work as it would be cool to fly with the canopy open without having to resort to turning off damage all together.

There is a way, we actually had it setup differently before, but resorted to use the asobo way of rigging the canopy, wich makes it crash...:( Now we have to go back to our old way, but also have to change many sounds, since the canopy control the dampening of the engine sound. We'll see!

The one “bug” that court me out 4 times when working on my takeoff was after flying the FD and Spit was the P-40 “crashing” after takeoff, I cannot tell you the wording I used the snowflakes would melt and I would get a ban.
Just remember to close the canopy before you takeoff lol.

I was skeptical about buying this aircraft and am pretty sure I would not have bought it.

After they very kindly giving me a copy. After a few hours this morning with the P-40 like Alan I was very impressed with it. Like am sure you all know I don’t hang back on how I feel or shy away from upsetting snowflakes. I just say it straight. So no BS. But frankly it’s so much better than I ever thought it would be. It’s a gem. Unlike the FI Spit I did not come across any blaring mistakes.
You do need to RTFM and like the FG set the CoG.

Learn how to fly the P-40 it’s not a Spit or an FG, it really does have a feel all to it s own.

Its the first aircraft in a sim when after closing the canopy I feel a bit claustrophobic you really feel your in a small place.

I am going to PM a few bug and I am going to do one of my PDF walk throughs I always make for myself and will send the guys a copy when it’s done to do what they they feel fit with.

I really do wish you both all the best with this and really look forward to your next aircraft. Next time It will be a day one buy.

I copied  a word the word “skeptical” because I have dyslexia, am so old it was not even a thing until the last 6 months of my school days. I’ve never done anything about it. It just makes my spelling and grammar age of around 7 years old.

Lol, never mind. Well spotted. It does not bother me, it’s not stoped me having my own business for the last 31 years and people just get to know and probably /rolleye and smile and think.....”David” 9 times out of 10 you will spot my replies as Edited...now you know why 😀
