Sim Skunk Works G-91

Interesting to see that the top 10 selling products are all for MSFS on this site.

To be honest, I suspect that with the dearth of things available for MSFS, people's standards have probably dropped a bit. You know flight simmers, part of the obsession for many of them is buying new toys, and so with MSFS having been available for coming up on six months, it's inevitable lots of simmers would end up buy nearly everything there is for it in order to feed that obsession.

Does anyone seriously think some of the appalling trash there is on Simmarket for MSFS, much of which I wouldn't even insult people with by knocking it out as a freebie, would have ever have even been considered, let alone bought, if it had to compete with a wealth of decent stuff alongside it?

“If you aren’t familiar with these guys… hiding behind that awful website and webstore design is the most complex and best F-104 you can find in any desktop simulation. They also have an AV-8B that a former USMC Harrier pilot over at SimHQ ranks as having a better flight model and VTOL/STOVL behaviour than the Razbam model.”

OK, here some quick review (I did not test weapons).

General observation:

1) 3/4 switches are working

2) Comprehensive flight manual (scanned and edited)

3) Comprehensive documentation

4)  PHI inertial system that require manual file edit. I really wish it just could have some user friendly interface instead

5) - very sensitive on roll

6) not easy to stabilize pitch

Pros:

- can start cold and dark

- Custom load manager

- comprehensive documentation

- brightness sliders

- have a drag chute

Cons

- HSI has only one button working that related to PHI system that seems to be going to be pain in a$$

- flap leveler inside cockpit is not animated

- open close canopy doesn't affect sound

- 99% switched in cockpit have no sound

- pitch/yaw  dampers inop

- jet sound too loud inside the cockpit when "headset" option is selected

- mirror inop

- can't find trim indicators

- doesn't stall/spin

KNOWN BUGS/INCOMPLETENESS

-        Weapons drop is limited to bombs, no launch weapons so far

-        Gunsight cannot be collimated since POV feautures do not work yet in MSFS 2020

-        Bomb impact to ground is marked with a crater, no blast effect so far due to MSFS 2020 incompleteness

-        Differential breaking not inplemented for practical reasons

-        For practical reasons some system were not implemented in R1B version:

-        IN FLIGHT VOICE RECORDER not implemented for practical reasons

-        OXIGEN FLOW not implemented for practical reasons

-        CABIN TEMPERATURE not implemented for practical reasons

-        SIF panel (rear) not implemented since all features already operating in IFF panel

-        CAMERAS not implemented since to make them realistic leads to an inacceptable performances  drop

-        PHI wind unit not implemented since the INS system is inherently precise and does not require any correction due to the wind along the route.

-        EMERGENCY SYSTEM PRESS hydraulic emergency system selector not implemented for practical reasons

-        COCKPIT EMERGENCY LIGHTS DIMMER not implemented for practical reasons

-        LANDING LIGHT TEST not implemented for practical reason.

-        ADI PULL TO CAGE not implemented for practical reasons.

-        ELEVATORE SERVO PRESS not implemented for practical reasons.

-        NOTE and VOLUME on VHF/UHF radio not implemented for practical reasons.

Well that's a shame. I really liked the look of this, but due to the current issues I won't be buying it at the moment 'for practical reasons'.

Back in my P3D I used had Electric Lighting add on, and G-91 flight  modeling remind me of that airplane. I don't know if those sensitive roll r=are authentic to real aircraft thought.

I feel that G-91 initially originally was intended for more advanced implementation  But instead it came out unfinished. I sincerely hope developer will enhance further. But I'm afraid Iike with MB-339, when after few patches developer will quickly moved to other projects.

It seems like becoming a trend. A lot of (if not all add ons) rushed in very unfinished state and with tons of bugs. I wish some companies like A2A set a pace for quality and advancement in MSFS. Right now we like a bunch of hungry birds pick whatever come out way LOL

'Differential braking, oxygen flow and cabin temp not implemented for practical reasons'

What exactly is practical about being unable to taxi properly, unable to breathe sufficient amounts of oxygen above 9,000 feet, and all whilst freezing your nuts off like you're in a Fokker Dr.1 at 20,000 feet wearing a t-shirt? 🤣

However things will break in non-differential mode just fine.. whether they have been INplemented or indeed OUTplemented..

The developer needs to know the difference between break and BRAKE for practical reasons.

I have a certain freeware P-38 which taxis by differential braking - nothing impractical about replicating the ground handling of the real thing. Does the G-91 have a castoring nosewheel or does it have hydraulic actuators for steering? I was unable to find that information.

Regardless, does the new sim not have keys for differential braking (they were on the numpad in FSX..) and thus axes which can be assigned if the user has pedals or a proportional rocker switch on their peripherals?

in external view

Fixed bug to autobrake on landing (set auto_brake = 0)

So...how are the flaps with the new update?

The amount of stuff they have updated in V2 of this makes me lean toward grabbing it.  I already have the MB-339, but some of their back catalog are things I would like to see come to MSFS.

Flaps are ok but there’s another bug with the stick in the VC inverting (it goes forward when you pull back etc.).

Devs already said they’ll be out with a hotfix soon so might be worth waiting for a day or two before buying.

Good, because this is an appalling error and has some quite serious and unforeseen consequences.  I am surprised at SSW for letting this slip through the net!

Last night I was practicing emergency descents, and as I dived sharply, the stick shot backwards and hit my virtual pilot in the gonads!
I had to breathe for him for the next couple of minutes, and we nearly never pulled out of the dive!

I have decided he will only be flying aircraft with a yoke now for the next few days... It's only fair!
