UK & Ireland World Update (1.13.16.0) is now live!

Recommended Posts

So my verdict on the things I've done as a creator that they've so brutally usurped.

Barra - perfect. Really good. Sand textures and a water mask too. Way better than mine. A bit of the parking is weird and it's missing some road markings but not much point in doing anything about that.

Barton - excellent. A few things could be added to the edges but I doubt anyone's going to care. Open hangars were fun but I don't think it's worth redoing the entire taxi system for that.

Land's End - very good. But the approaches and surroundings are pretty bereft and the runway elevations are gone. I'll pluck their good bits but it still hits the spot.

Liverpool - Very good. It's missing a fair bit of the detail I did landside but I doubt many will miss it. It is missing enough light though so I'll probably juice it up a bit.

Elsewhere all of Out Skerries is stunning.

They've properly wrecked the St Marys airport area on the Isles of Scilly. I'll have to totally re terraform it. Ugh.

The Cornish coast looks fantastic with proper coves and beaches. It is a bit twitchy though.

Channel Islands are still flat.

The autogen buildings can look more appropriate than before but plenty are rather oversized, sometimes insanely.

This doesn't seem like a "them" problem

Right' it,s completely normal letting us chase every piece of the update' instead of putting everything in one download.
Sorry for having such a rational thinking.

If you never flew in the UK/Ireland or never the USA or never in Japan, would you want to be forced to download those updates?

I have not had time to do more than the basic install of the core patch but with all previous world updates downloading the regional addon was optional, you needed to "buy" it for free on the marketplace and install it separately from the patch itself.

Has that now changed ?

Nope, exactly as it has been for previous world updates.

Oh and they’ve gone to great trouble to place the Tyne bridge, but leave the millennium bridge right next to it as a blur in the water. What was the point 💁‍♂️

This is the issue really. I dont see Asobo ever getting to the completion level we want. They just dont have the time and resource.

Third party developers, payware or freeware, will always be able to fill in around Asobo's work, and ultimately, this is how the sim will become properly populated over the years. The objects Asobo do put in are really good quality though.

Flying Theston over at flightsim.to has done some excellent Birmingham scenery, which is better than the update in some places.  Hopefully he can update it to a kind of hybrid to work with the new photogrammetry.  Same goes for my OrbX London pack. A merger would be great - it appears they are going to look at it.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Haha...no disrespect intended. I meant there are two sovereign countries - the UK and Ireland, included in the update, as opposed to the 4 individual states that comprise the UK. Maybe Scotland will soon be independent!!

No disrespect intended, perhaps, but you still call them states, when they are in fact countries. Not independent ones but nontheless.

To be honest, our weather is not as bad as the stereotype.  We don't suffer extreme cold, or extreme heat.  We don't have hurricanes, earthquakes or anything like that.

We have earthquakes down here in New Zealand, unfortunately, but I'm pretty sure they've got absolutely nothing to do with our weather. 😛

What is wrong with them, why can't they just put everything in the main update??

The enhanced scenery updates for Japan, USA and now UK/Ireland are optional - they don’t automatically get installed. It may be that some users do not want them for whatever reason, so they put it in the Marketplace so you can choose to add it to the sim (or not).

Each update has been around 4 GB, some users may have storage limitations (or bandwidth caps), so they might want to forego major updates for areas they have no real interest in.

In case anybody was wondering what the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland now look like. They've improved, the mesh is definitely better, but could definitely do with a lick of paint 😄

I still see semi-spikes out there.  I see them around Liverpool and elsewhere.  Weren't these supposed to be fixed?  I don't see them in the before/after video in this thread so obviously not everyone is getting them.  Do I have to do something with this install to remove these anomalies?

Help if you know the answer.

Stan
