Downloaded P3D last night and some A2A planes and some other add ons I had. Took a flight out of Key West this morning, a flight I did in real life many times. It looked terrible in P3D compared to how it looks in MSFS. MSFS is like crack cocaine, easy to get addicted.

I decided to fire up MSFS one more time his morning and twice it CTD when loading a flight and hitting the fly button. Then I had to load flight twice again for the G 530 screen being black. Right now I am taking a 70 mile flight into Venice Italy to see if I can land without a CTD. I am starting to wonder if the MSFS file is corrupted someone how, and if so should I reinstall it. I have never done this with a sim before, so I am kind of doubtful it will solve anything. Only add ons I have are the two aircraft in the community folder. I even removed the G 530 mod this morning. Has anyone seen any improvement in reinstalling MSFS? I guess reinstalling it would require re- downloading the entire sim.

I did notice that when the flight was loading that the ram usage was around 90%, but dropped once the flight loaded. Now it is running around 65%

Do you use a running or manual cache? If so, try deleting it and disabling cache to see if that makes a difference. File corruption could certainly trigger a CTD, and the cache (if enabled) is one file that would constantly be written to or read while the sim is running.

Unfortunately, the only way to insure that other core MSFS files are uncorrupted would probably be to do a full reinstallation.

There have been many reports of users seeing ever-increasing system RAM consumption as a flight progresses. That has never happened here. I have 32 GB, and MSFS uses no more than 45 to 50 percent at all times, no matter how long I run the program, or how long (or where) I fly.

I have seen GPU VRAM consumption go as high as 85 percent in graphically complex areas, but it always drops back to about 50 percent when leaving complex scenery. I have an 11GB GTX1080Ti.

Ever increasing RAM consumption is a classic symptom of a memory leak, but hard to say what might trigger it for some users, while others are unaffected.

Before you download the whole lot Bob.Can you go to the Official Folder - OneStore - and Delete this file:

fs-base-nav

Log out of the MS Store - Restart the PC - Login to MS Store. Start MSFS 2020. On the Updates page it will prompt you to download files - I think about 1.5 GB.

Let it run. . .Not saying it will work for you but when I had my CTD week of Horror - that file was the culprit.

Adobo needs to get this fiasco behind them. Marketplace will dry up, Developers will think three times before putting any resources in this, You tube videos have already come to a halt. There are only so many first time buyers out there. I really wanted this to be the ultimate SIm and it looked like just that when it was released. I built this computer just for it. I really don't see much of a path forward for MS2020 if past history is any indication. All we can do now is wait and hope for the best. No complaining or voting will do any good. They either have the ability or not to keep this franchise going for another few years.

Regards

Thats very strange Denwagg because I never had any problem with the sim since I installed it, occasionally I got CTD but ,first I was low in RAM and since I increased it to 32GB its just fine. and remember before you start a flight always reboot your PC.

I did that. First start of MSFS and no CTD. That's a good sign, will try a flight next. How did you decide that file was the problem?

How did you find that out?

Time, time and more time. . .

A combination of scrutinising Resource Monitor for what was loading in to RAM and from the disk. That little fellow kept appearing and stalling in RAM whilst others were going in and out like dogs at the fair. A lot of other files died from the Official folder so that that one could be identified.

Hi Bob, If you haven't done it yet - delete the rolling cache file from within the sim and then recreate the cache file. Let us know.

I have to decide what to do if this continues, go back to P3D, or just forget sims altogether.

Why not have MSFS and P3D installed side by side (on separate SSDs..)

That is what I've got...  A great cockpit simulator (P3D) and a great scenery simulator (MSFS)..

I can fly in either, depending on what I would like to do  😉

I just uninstalled it. Getting the refund. I will never use it.
