P3D?

Yes, just bought it yesterday. Don't like it compared to FS 2020.

Just read a post on Facebook where some users are having the same problem with CTD on startup or during approach to airport. This started for them after the Hotfix patch on Friday.

Bob, how about your virtual memory settings?

I haven't touched it .

Right. With 16 GB of RAM you need to.

It could explain all your CTDs.

I have 16 GB 2133mhz RAM and my page file is set to;

Min - 12000

Max - 22000

Try that and go flying.

16GB RAM here and I've never had to muck about with any page files/virtual memory stuff.

Different rigs need different stuff.

OK will do.

You okay doing it or do you want a guide?

Got it done. My last flight prior to doing this was a success. No Ctds.

I spent a bunch of time tweaking my settings and found that to remove the stutters I needed 45+ FPS. I adjusted my settings accordingly and now it is almost entirely stutter free.

Downloaded P3D last night and some A2A planes and some other add ons I had. Took a flight out of Key West this morning, a flight I did in real life many times. It looked terrible in P3D compared to how it looks in MSFS. MSFS is like crack cocaine, easy to get addicted.

I decided to fire up MSFS one more time his morning and twice it CTD when loading a flight and hitting the fly button. Then I had to load flight twice again for the G 530 screen being black. Right now I am taking a 70 mile flight into Venice Italy to see if I can land without a CTD. I am starting to wonder if the MSFS file is corrupted someone how, and if so should I reinstall it. I have never done this with a sim before, so I am kind of doubtful it will solve anything. Only add ons I have are the two aircraft in the community folder. I even removed the G 530 mod this morning. Has anyone seen any improvement in reinstalling MSFS? I guess reinstalling it would require re- downloading the entire sim.

I did notice that when the flight was loading that the ram usage was around 90%, but dropped once the flight loaded. Now it is running around 65%

Bob

I wanted to go back where your were able to fly and after awhile that it would not allow you to complete a flight. Also when you try to load up a aircraft, it seem to CTD a lot sooner. It like the problem seem to progress at certain times or failure changes depending on where your going or how soon after the previous crash you try to restart.

Have you try open the side of the computer and look at your system to see if its loaded dusk inside? Usually problems like this could be matter if heat due to the system resources that are being taxes by the sim.

On the first case, your where able to fly a particular route before the patch with out a problem. After the patch, somehow you can't or your experiencing issue. That update not have been optimize enough to allow your system to run as efficient and any amount of heat would push it over the edge cause to become unstable.

JRBarrent comments is also something to consider when it comes to memory resources and I would seriously consider add more memory to the system at some point in the near future.

I you haven't, check an see if your system is dusty inside and blow it out with can air (with the computer off). Then see if it will start up the sim, load up the aircraft and if you make there, re run that same flight (that crash previously) with the side cover off and see if it would let you complete that same flight.

Edit  PS Bob I just saw the latest message that your last flight was success when I wrote this.

Before you download the whole lot Bob.Can you go to the Official Folder - OneStore - and Delete this file:

fs-base-nav

Log out of the MS Store - Restart the PC - Login to MS Store. Start MSFS 2020. On the Updates page it will prompt you to download files - I think about 1.5 GB.

Let it run. . .Not saying it will work for you but when I had my CTD week of Horror - that file was the culprit.

This may have worked after all. Three successful launches of MSFS without a CTD.

My system is brand new and clean as a whistle. Temps are all  normal. I have read some posts on Facebook where users are having the exact same problem immediately after the update. I think there is another bug in the update.

Did you do the Virtual Memory setting as well?

Never mind  - leave everything as is and do some more flying.

Encouraging news Bob. Well done.
